Backmarker
The gas struts that supposedly hold up the rear hatch on my S4 are perfroming quite miserablely. Anyone know where the replacement parts can be purchased? Presume they are not a Lotus product. Cheers, Graham. s4simon
I have noticed mine are a bit wimpy with the cold weather as well. But I spose all extendable struts underperform a bit in the cold. Quote Simon (94 S4) My Esprit will be for sale in late 2017

Paul C
The SE ones lock rather than hold up the tailgate. You just open it all the way and they lock. then lift it slightly and they unlock and let the tail close under the resistance they provide against the weight. I'd get a set of these instead if they fit?

You just open it all the way and they lock. then lift it slightly and they unlock and let the tail close under the resistance they provide against the weight. I'd get a set of these instead if they fit? Yeah but the SE ones don't open as far as the non-locking ones (from the cars without hatch mounted wings). So some owners may not like them... I like them though... Just don't hit your brain on the raised SE wing tips!!! That is about the most painfull thing ever. Backmarker
The gas struts are not in this country. They've got to be ordered from the manufacturer in Germany. Delivery is 6 weeks. Why does it take 42 days to deliver a small pacel from Germany to Stafford ? nicholasshen
Hi guys, Have noted the replacement for the struts in the website provided by chris. well, mine is the 88 turbo model & i'm currently using the 2002 V8 wing. Is there any recommendation on stronger struts that i can use. as the oem fibreglass wing is too heavy. (comtemplating switching over to a carbon fibre GT wing)
