Hi Ken, and welcome to the forum! :D

The original pump is an SU unit, but really any (universal) fuel pump for carbureted cars will work. You need one that will produce around 4-5 psi.

Are you sure it is not a matter of gunk (i.e. old gelled fuel) sitting in the tank? Did the car sit for a long time prior to your purchase?

Cheers,

Tony

p.s. -- where in the states are you, what is the chassis # of your S1 (for the registry), got any photos?

Hi Ken,

Welcome.

You may also want to check the flowlock valve that is located inline between the fuel tank and the fuel pump. If the valve is stuck closed then no fuel will get to the pump. The flowlock valve is energized by the the ignition. Check you are getting power to it and that you have a good ground. Good luck.

Also as Tony says...photos, photos,photos

Hi Kenny,

Basically the VIN, and the last four digits in short. For example, the white car in my avatar to the left is 77020155H, or 155H in short. The VIN is basically the year and month of build (7702 = 1977, February), plus the (roughly) sequential number (0155) for that given market (H=North America, G=UK, J=Rest of World). Check out the "Esprit Registry" thread in the General discussion section -- lots of S1s accounted for! :D

Given that you're in New Jersey, did you, by any chance, buy the yellow car from Dan?

Cheers,

Tony
