IMO, like the APX concept, this is a total and utter nightmare for Lotus owners.

:)

Lets assume that Lotus make and sell a battery powered little city hatchback.

Lotus will never be a 'sportcar maker' ever again, they will just be a 'car maker'.

Here's how i see it:

You tell people you have a Lamborghini, they know you have a sportscar.

:D

You tell people you have a Ferrari, they know you have a sportscar.

:P

You tell people you have an Aston Martin, they know you have a sportscar.

:)

You tell people you have a TVR, they know you have a sportscar.

:)

You tell people you have a Lotus?, they will need to ask if it's the sportscar.

:(

Thats a real shame. They might as well make one of them soft roaders like

Porsche did. Trust me, once Lotus start making minibuses and the like, then

it can only devalue the badge as the name will no longer be synonymous only

with sportscars, there is no way you can argue that as being good IMO.

You tell people you have a Lamborghini, they know you have a small winkle and a big ego.

You tell people you have a Ferrari, they know you have no imagination.

You tell people you have an Aston Martin, they know you might have an Aygo with a nose-job.

You tell people you have a TVR, they know you have the AA on speed dial.

You tell people you have a Lotus?, they will need to ask if it's 'Usually Troubled' etc.

:)

Not concerned about any possible dilution of the marque with these sort of projects, if anything it shows how serious they are about new technologies and hybrids etc.

Whatever it takes to pay the bills....

Marge: Homer, I don't want you driving around in a car you built yourself.

Homer : Marge, you can either sit there complaining, or you can knit me some seat belts...

The image of the Lotus at the start of this thread looks exactly the same to me as the baby Mercedes.

If it goes into production perhaps it could wear the Petronas badge

Hang on a bit, Lotus is a research and development company, the article doesn't say they are going to manufacture it, only build it to show that they can, and thereby develop interest from other manufacturers.

Personally I think it's good, it demonstrates a responsible approach to the environment, not just a penchant for fuel guzzling bat-mobiles. Perception is all important, this is good. IMVHO or IMOSHO

The other catch with the Aston one is that in the initial report that ws in teh press it said you could only buy one from then IF you bought one of the DB9/DBS or other op money cars !!

The price for the cygnet was about 23K

Isn't the Aston thing like buying a matching tender for your yatch sorry Yacht only you can't hang your dinghy sorry dinky aston off the back!!

What is it then a car for the missus although if you have a DBS/DB9 she's 'not going to be seen in one of those my dear'. That just leaves the butler, who'd be better off with a discovery in which to put all your dry cleaning, whims, fancies and fancy pieces!!

I've told aston in no uncertain terms that its a borlax Idea and they are not to come round trying to persuade me to buy a car again.

Then I relised it was my sister (Aston customer services) and apologised like the spineless wimp that I am or have whipped into being!!
