What else?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering....

If the Esprit had never exisited or if they were unavailable for some reason or other what other automobiles would members on here be driving? or Lusting after?

It would be quite interesting to see peoples thoughts. Obviously differing things have to be factored in; this is not just a "Wish list" of cars you want. It should really take into account running the car, purchase etc... and all those earthly things that tie us to reality.

Would similar styling be a must? performance? or something with that WOW or Romance factor?

Massive wish list of course! But given the similar budget and cars I like,

1 Lancia Delta Integrale (again!)

2 Mitsubishi 3000 GT

3 Porsche 944/928

4 Lancia Stratos (kit)

5 Lancer Evo/Imprezza

Other cars I was considering when I bought the Lotus were:-

Lotus Elite,

Lotus Elan

Lamborghini Urracco (Not sure if I could afford any spares, though)

Maserati Merak

Lotus Europa

and am now considering an Elise when the topping up of the bank account meets the fall in prices (in the States).

Sometimes I feel partial to a Jaguar XJS convertible but it would have to be a V12.

S4 Elan, Elan +2S, Federal-spec, World Championship Edition S2 Esprit #42, S1 Elise, Excel SE

Sorry I sold them.

Citroen SM

Nova - yes Kit Car - Looks as good as the Esprit. Pity about the engine.

Lotus Elite - Original

Citroen DS

For its quirkiness, mad 'ahead of its time' technological advances and good looks.

Got as far as buying an engine for spares along with a full set of cabin glass. Still, the citroen gearbox is quite familiar now, along with the inboard braking system.

anyone want a DS rearscreen and side windows.......no......try ebay again then.

BMW M3

...with Swindon plates.

R i i i i i i i i g g g g h h h h t........

Listen, Paul, I'm still waiting for your counter-offer on that bridge in New York. I can't keep it off the market much longer.

Me? What would I want? Ahhh......I was thinking more along the lines of a true "sleeper." Say, a 60's VW Microbus with a 454 ensconced in the third row seat area. Coupla' Holly quads dumping silly fuel into the Edlebrocks and a Hurst shifter up front. Maybe delivered with straightcut gears to a Positraction diff. Still looking into the details of the halfshafts--could be a bit of a challenge.

Does anyone know the code for "Paisley" paint? :(

Mmm... The swindon thing seems to have infected the entire forum.

:(

Obviously the BMW was a joke as i could not afford the post purchase expense.

In truth, i'd really like one of those cheap as chips to buy, huge engined but low

powered American icons of my youth. A quick scan of Pistonheads finds these for

peanuts:

I know you tried to educate me about them Felix, but given the wallet, a bang on

the head, and a driveway i cared so little for i'd cover it in oil. I'd shed a couple of

grand and roll back home in something like that, if only to tick a box.

That's a big 10-4 on the "post purchase expense," Rubber Duck. As much as I hate giving you even more ammunition, Paul, when I last took my (original owner--purchased for the Mrs. back in '91 and now handed down to each son in sequence for getting to/from school) 535i in for some routine accessory belt changes, the fellow behind the counter commented on my "running total" (have used the same independent shop for quite a while on this particular car) on upkeep as being $22,000.00! And that's not counting the early years Dealer maintenance. Of course there are now 211,600 miles on the clock, and one of the repairs was a new tranny, so maybe that amortizes out to something almost tolerable. And I just retrieved my M Coupe last week after the Dealer replaced the air bag control module for $800.00 parts and labor. Ouch! As you say, it ain't cheap emulating a pompous poser twit! :( But I still enjoy the both of them when all systems are "go." Nonetheless, strapping into the Esprit puts everything into proper perspective. :)

Ferrari 308

:)

Did I dream it, or didn't you have one of those a year or two back Tony?

I'm sure I remember of a pic of 3 S1's and a 308 in the garage. Or was that something else? Getting old - memory obviously going. :(

If I could afford it, it would have to be an E-Type Jag.
