Quick chargecooler question

Recommended Posts

On the intake air port from the turbo there is a screw which holds a P clip and an Earth braid strap....ummm... anyone know where that goes to from the chargecooler ? I did have it written down but only as 'earth strap to chargecooler' so I am a bit lost

Any help photos would be much appreciated....not bad out of the 1,000,001 bits I've taken off, only this isn't back in the right place (sure my engine looked different to how it is now....should the cam belts face sideways ? LOL).

It goes to any metal bolt on the engine. It is just a ground strap, not a ground wire. Its to help prevent a galvanic reaction with the chargecooler coolant, since the heat exchanger is all rubber mounted.

I think on my car it goes to a bolt on the turbo heat shield right below the chargecooler.

Hi Jonathan

Kevs just gone out and had a look at ours

I dont know whether our S4 is the same as your gt, but the earth strap goes from the intake on the chargecooler, it then goes underneath the intake and bolts to the heat shield on the engine. I hope this helps

Yep thats the one - on the heat shield ey....hmmm I thought there was a specific bolt on the block or something. Like I say I've had it all to bits over the past 2 months and I've forgotten this one.

Mine wont fit on those heat shield studs (barely enough room for the original nuts !) - bugger come to think I bet it went under the chargecooler mounting....sod taking that off again, I'll just loop it to something convenent.

Thank for the pics etc

My bad - and I've read that page before when doing ym catch tank

I'm going to hi-jack my own thread here, looking at the rubber mounts I've come to work out a good way to re-fit them without causing them any damage (which is where I reakon they initially get damaged from).

All the fittings are 'live' which means releasing the nut slightly enables the fitting to move about in slotted holes, mine was set up badly and the front mount was leaning over becuase the bracket was not mounted on the heat shield correctly.

If you release the back mounting, the front mounting (mount to the bracket) and the bracket to the heat shield you can let the rubber 'relax'. Wiggle it a bit and they find their comfortable setting where it has no stress.

Tighten the bracket on the heat shield and instead of using nylock nuts to hold the rubber mounts on to the bracket and the charge cooler use a normal full nut with a spring washer & flat washer combi. The nylocks puts un-neccessary sheer strain on the rubber mount when you tighten it up and this way you have no need for pliers (21mm spanner) to hold the rubber mount when tightening - I've just done it on my car and it works a treat.

Can do pics if you want them Kato ?
