Loose Cannon
If that's your base car the end result should be awesome, I've seen much worse S2s still driving around! Quote In the garage no-one can hear you scream

Advantage
Welcome to LEF Simon. Enjoy your new project, although I understand it's one of many on the go at the moment! Have a rummage around the tech area for any immediate issues with the car and feel free to ask any questions however mundane or difficult. [Any chance you could limit your photos to 800x600 please as some of the (mainly overseas) members here are still on steam powered dial up. You can hotlink them from your post on the SELOC gallery and they should show up ok.]

USAndretti42
Welcome to the forum, Simon. I think it's great that all these S2.2's are being restored. OK it may be only 3 cars but that's a large percentage of the production run. P.S. Got any good "Our Tune" stories you can share with us? simonb
Cheers all, intention is to restore as little as possible, as the car seems very original. The engine turns, and with only 58K hopefully not too bad, cooling system dry, so I guess rad off for a pressure test and new hoses Suspension at the front is knackered (but that is not the most technical part of the car!). Intention is to start off fiddling - put an optimate on it, and fiddle with electrics, I am sure there will be hours of fun there. Will also get some leather restorer from woolies - it will not need a retrim - definitely carpets and headlining though. Later on I will spend some proper money with engine & box coming out for a once over Only thing missing is the gearknob and why oh why oh why do people with leather seats not buy a bar of saddle soap or leather conditioner - mine will come back with a little tlc and a recolour, but a drop of glycerine and leather lasts for ever Edited August 25, 2009 by simonb
simonb
Cheers all, got hold of Andy Graham The car was originally used by Mr. Jewell, C/o Lotus Cars. original body colour was Silver Diamond with red leather seats and black nylon trim - so is as original as it looks
simonb
In Walton's Esprit book, a Dennis Jewell is briefly mentioned as part of the M70 team. Any ideas how I can find out about Lotus staff in the 1970s / 1980s? Be nice to have a staff car

simonb
Only just over a year later and IT LIVES Driven back from GST today, and I do like it. £4726 inc VAT to get a S2.2 from having been stood up for 5 years to driving like a dream is a bit of a big service bill (and with no major nasties found - cambelt and exhaust manifold were largest parts) Could see it being very easy to spend well over £10K on a car that is a bit rough

Bazza 907
Simon I saw the car on Sunday at GST. Looked Fantastic. Knowing Gerald, if he had actually charged for all the hours he actually spent on a car the bills would be much much larger....
simonb
You are correct, but I thought it might help those considering work to get a feel for what the bills can look like. Am chuffed, as so far, I have spent less than the value of the car
Loose Cannon
Phwoooaaar! Another S2 lives! Your reg is very close to Leigh Greenhams Elite and others. simonb
Dug this up to add some sad news on the wallet front Bought a set of stickers from SJ, just a moderate £100 spend, as it is a shame to have a S2.2 masquerading as a "common" S2 Thought I better have one or two paint blemishes sorted at the same time (car has previously been resprayed - always the same silver) current paint not that good, and with muttered comments of "shame it is silver" and "difficult to match well" the few hundred pount aspiration has turned into a £2000 respray Off to lick wounds. Car booked for end September

simonb
Chap in the next village - David Bridges. Work seems pretty good, he has already resprayed my Range Rover for me. The car in front is a Stutz racer, so he has quite a mix of stuff
