S2 Engine Mount Replacement

Can the engine mounts be swapped with the engine and gearbox in situ? The lh side is all cracked from the exhaust heat and while the head and alternator are off access to the mounts is easy. Does anything on the gearbox need loosening in order to raise the engine enough to slip the mounts in and out?

Cheers,

Pete

I shouldn't think it'd be too difficult; the usual grovelling underneath would be needed, but I reckon you could jack the engine/gearbox up enough to change the mounts. Mind, I haven't done it, changed mine with the unit out of the car, but it does seem feasilble. Good luck!!

Hi Pete

Mine where changed in-situ by the DPO before I got my car last year. So can be done with a bit of fiddling. 4 post lift and a tranny jack and you should be okay.

Good Luck! - Mark

I had to jack my engine up in order to refasten the engine on one side :(

I suppose you could replace the engine mounts that way

I had to take off the LHS engine mount on my car to remove the exhaust manifold. I had to take off the manifold to remove the head so I am suprised you got the head off without distrubiing the mount.

I just supported the engine with a jack when doing this without loosening the gearbox mounts. I have had to loosen the top, left gearbox mount to get the bolt through the removable chassis tube that I swing out of the way to get the manifold out. I do this with the jack still under the engine as I don't take the bolt all the way out. I just loosen it so I can wiggle the tube about.

The right-hand side mount should be easier as there are not so many things in the way (he says, not havning done it).

The manifold does come out from the top with evertning in situ. It's a bit of a wiggle but it works.

SoI guess the consensus is the the engine will move far enough to swap the mounts without having to undo gearbox.

Thanks.
