Who does what? Show us your day!!!

What computer language do you write your software in?  Where are based, in the States or UK?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Mostly C++, C# & .NET. We are based in St Neots near Cambridge UK. For hardware designers we are looking for both analogue and digital engineers (design, board layout, VHDL - all at high clock speeds). Details at www.picotech.com/employment.html (end of job advert!).

Following the where do you surf? thread, i thought it might be interesting

to find out what our members do, and/or where they spend their day...

:o

Esprit ownership has led me to meeting people from all walks of life that

i might have otherwise never crossed,  i have been to Esprit meets where

Electricians, pilots and Estate agents chat and make friends without knowing

what each other do, the cars bring us together like that, which is kinda cool.

B)

Remember, some owners may not want to say, and i know some that cannot,

so no hounding people. I just thought it might be interesting to see who we are.

:o

I'll go first! I'm an Electrician. And work mainly in historic properties,

here's a photo i got taken yesterday with this thread in mind. Cables

seemed uninteresting, so i thought i'd show you this old range that we

uncovered this week.

me-stove.JPG

It's in the basement of a five story town house in Oxford city, and would

have been where the housekeeper lived and cooked. There is the remains

of an old dumb waiter (lift for trays) that the servants would have used to

send the cooked food from the basement, up to the maid in the house above

ready to serve. Amazing what gets covered over and forgotten...

Who's next?

Pauls only standing like that cause he's drilled his big toe to the block of wood.

Mr. A , congratulations on making it :o

You should buy Lotus :)  :o

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Do you know how many times I thought about that?

Out of my price range for the time being.

I've had/have 2 dancing donkeys over the years, and a Lambo and this is my 5th Esprit, because Lotus just stirs me up so much. OK, so does the Diablo, but Lotus is the only company out of the three I fantasised about buying.

That's amazing :)

What are your books titles? I'd love to have a read as they must be inspirational. :P

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

They are technical books - about finance and about bodybuilding/health/fitness/etc - nothing inspirational there, boring actually if you are not interested in the subject.

The new one which is about my life is called... "Life" - original, huh? At least I know the name of the sequel - 'Life continues' LOL

Anyway, "Life' will be available at all bookstores like Borders and also online through Amazon. It's end of April/early May release.

Impressive. I hope that I can be able to say that I have lived such a diverse and successful life. Any advice for the young guys in the crowd? I agree with Wayne bout the buying Lotus

I work for ASDA-Walmart in their distribution and logistics sector. I basically relay new management strategies from their head-office in Leeds to their various regional distribution centres accross the UK. Means lots of late nights but also lots of travelling and hotels :o

Was a medical student for a bit... soon shelved that when I realised just how much pernickity red-tape there was everywhere! The nurses weren't as pretty as I'd hoped either...

Paul C still has the biggest drill on the forum though :)

Mate, that was a mere battery drill!

Some of the drill bits i have are 4-5ft long and STILL not long enough

to get through the walls of some of the older buildings. Church walls can

be over 5ft think, but they are actually two walls really, with a loose fill

of rubble in between - very annoying!!!!

Bit goes through, pull it out, hole fills back up with rubble... :o

Anyway...

Where's the plumbers out there then? (always late...)

:o

CONGRATULATIONS, guys on the remarkable achievements that you have all made in your lives and careers to date, we have some real high fliers sitting in on this forum, I am sure we are all suitably impressed.

WHICH , brings me to another subject, as self appointed 'whipper in ' ( unless any other would care to take up the cudgel) to Katos laptop fund , which is still 'wanting' suitable benefactors to assist in bringing the total to the required amount to purchase the replacement laptop.

We ALL benefit greatly from this website and forum, which without Katos largely unpaid efforts would cost us very dear.

Ok, so gloves are now off ..... Those of you who haven't subscribed a small amount to the common good but have taken pains to advise us of your success in life . SEND your money NOW.

GO ON DO IT !!!

We know who you are.

Mike.

Just paying out for the engine rebuild on saturday to complete the "Perfect Esprit" project, and thats thousands thats cleared me out and some. Ive got my lotus for sale ( no guys Im not bailing out just looking for a white one ) and the minute my car sells I will be the first to give 50 pounds to the site. Yes 50quid and let that be a lesson to you all as I am by far the poorest on here! In fact when I do. I think the richer ones amoung you can coff up more, but without me actually having given anything yet I will wait till I have. In the mean time if I land a great film role I will be off to the aston martin forum lol but will pay my dues.

I'd have thought with the shear number of people we seem to have in the IT industry on here some users would be in a position to grant a free server for the site...

I work in the GeoResources Institute at Mississippi State University. www.gri.msstate.edu where I work in the remote sensing and GIS area. For you pilots I used to fly in the back of Cessena 410 operating sensors. Secretaries would come out when we landed to see how green I looked. :o

Do a lot of work for NASA, NOAA, DOT and some other three letter gov't agencies.

Spent a lot of time on the coast after Hurricane Katrina doing remote sensing with satellite and aerial imagery. People would call (with a cell) in their location while stranded but they described their location by street address or what the surroundings looked like. We would do what they call 'geocoding' so chopper pilots could navigate to the pickup by latitude and longitude. It would probably be the most rewarding experience I've ever had if it weren't for the magnitude of the devastation.

Its a pretty cool job for a humble state employee.
