It's all gone a bit quiet...........

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I just noticed it's been 2 months since anyone posted a thread here, so here's an ice breaker. Are there any Lotus Esprit meets, Sunday drives etc. planned in the Sydney area anytime soon ? Anybody want to get together one weekend ?

It's been a busy few months for me getting my Esprit into shape after it's previous life in London. Lot's of jobs completed now and the car is running very well. I have a full set of bushes, shocks and spring to rebuild the suspension with, but that will have to wait for winter - it's too hot to start pulling all that apart, I prefer to wait until it's a bit cooler. Anyway jobs done recently :-

Leather interior cleaned and re-dyed in original colors - looks and smells great.

Gearbox translator and cable ends repaired and adjusted - gear change 100% better.

New Stainless Clutch hose fitted - I can change gear when it's hot !

Replaced fuel tank breather hoses - fuel smell gone completely.

Drained and flushed cooling system, replaced pressure cap, cleaned radiator fins etc. Replaced fan relay. No sign of overheating at all now.

Replaced aux drive belts

Fixed Vac leak and now the heater/vent controls work

Aircon re-gassed with HR-12 equivalent - cool......

Wheel allignment done ( I cheated and took it to a 'specialist' )

Electrical faults fixed - mainly due to a bad earth so I ran a new one from the battery to the front of the car.

Electric Windows rewired with relays - they work great now.

New stereo fitted and installed 'subwoofer' in passenger footwell. It doesn't sound too bad now.

Oil filter and oil changed twice, just to flush out the engine really.

Air and fuel filter changed.

Cambelt checked - Danny let me use his Burrough's gauge and it's all good - maybe change next winter as it's only done 4000 miles on this one, but it's almost 3 years old. I've ordered a Kriket gauge for my tool kit too.

Brake callipers all cleaned, replaced brake fluid. Pads all OK.

I've already driven 3000 km's in the car, all 'local' trips as I wanted to get some confidence in it before I took it further afield. Here's an early morning photo taken down at Sydney Harbnour a few weeks ago.

Good idea Steve.

How about we meet up at the old Warriors Cafe early (7am) on Saturday or Sunday morning. Check out the bikes there, have breakfast and then go for a drive down to Spencer and be back by lunchtime?

That cafe has had a major renovation and is quite good now.

This Saturday?

Cool - You're on. This Saturday would be perfect so how about we meet at 7am at the Cafe for breakfast, and leave there about 7.45am for a drive ? Anybody else want to join in ? It would be great to see a few faces if you have nothing else planned for Saturday . smile.gif

The Road Warriors Cafe is located at 1147 Pacific Highway, Mount Wight - see images below. The Cafe is where the Purple teardrop is pointing on the old Pacific Highway, not the F3!

Steve, looks like there'll be about 4 or 5 of us. Interesting if this develops into a regular get together for Sydney's Esprit owners.

See you tomorrow.

I'd be up for that even though it's a Satanically early time. Not this weekend though, maybe next time.

Weather's looking odd outside, but the 350's fuelled and ready to go. See you soon champs.

See! See what I mean? That was posted at 4:30 in the morning. You should still be rogering the pretty young thing you picked up the night before, not getting up to have an early breakfast.

These Esprits are wasted on you.

Oh, and I think I'll be up for the next run :detective:

Does anyone have photo's - I didn't take my camera - Doh ! If you have some please email me copies to [email protected] when you get a chance.

Just home, 1.30pm after about 160klms of quiet and enjoyable backroad driving.

Arriving at Mt white at 7.15am to see quite a few Esprits was good. After intros, breakfast etc we headed off for Spencer. Stopped at the cafe there for more breakfast and more chatting before we split into two groups for the run home. Three of us followed the river home while the others went back up the climb to the top.

Overall a pleasant way to spend a Saturday morning and we should do it more often.

Thanks guys that was fun. Yes Dave you must come next time. The early start will be worth it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Steve WOW this is a dream of mine to see a few Esprit together like that especially in Melbourne.

Hope we get enough interest in this part of the town to do the same.

Just in case someone from Melbourne would like to start the same please contact me on [email protected]

PS: It will also be nice to list any cars from your trip that are not register with the Australian Esprit registry to contact me on the same email as I would love to display them on the web as we have with yours.

Tony
