brake problems

Recommended Posts

I have a 1993 esprit and the 'anti lock' light will come on and off randomly.

my mechanic says it is a problem with the hi/low pressure switch and accumulator As THE SWITCH IS NO LONGER MADE, THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT SWITCH AVAILABLE FROM LOTUS OR DELCO OR ANY AFTERMARKET SOURCE

IF THERE ARE ENOUGH ESPRIT OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND PREDICAMENT, WE MAY HAVE A CAUSE OF ACTION IN A ' CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ' it may be against Lotus or Delco. I am not a lawyer but have acess to many. If there is enough interest I will devote the time to get more information.

Please write me at 'sydds@aol.com' thanks for your time and attention

You think you can sue someone as a part for your 16 year old car is no longer available? You aren't a lawyer are you but I bet you're in the USA!

You'd be better off spending your time reading this thread and finding a very good and solid chance of recovering the pressure switch you have.

It probably varies from country to country but I think car manufacturers in the EU have to continue supplying spares for 5? years after a model goes out of production.

Lotus, especially as they are a small company, go to great lengths to keep our cars on the road often having to find new suppliers (as old ones go out of business). I doubt there are many car companies which provide such a level of support for obsolete models. OK, there are a few difficult to find parts but it is then up to specialists and enthusiasts to find work arounds.

Bibs,

There was some talk floating around that Lotus might be working with a manufacturer to come up with a replacement switch. Do you know if there is any truth to that?

Nick, I'd be interested in that switch if you could PM the info I would appreciate it. I tried to PM you but your box must be full.

I have mentioned it before guys. Steve Taylor from the Elan Factory in Melbourne Australia has developed a replacement set of switches for replacing the Delco switch. I am not sure of the status currently, but the last thing I heard from Steve, he was getting engineering approval of the system. He has split the switch into two, i.e. low press and hi press sides and built a harness which attaches to the existing loom. I am not sure of pricing but if you contact him, I am sure he would help out.

Michael.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.

Hey Bibs what makes you assume they are from the USA...LOL!

LOL! American's sue people? Really?

I'm going to be trying to clean my switch as my braking doesn't seem to be right either. For me it is like I have no vacuum braking assist and I don't have the flickering on and off of the ABS light like other people are having. I do have the occasionally brake lights sticking on which I pump the brake pedal a couple of times to clear. I sure wish there was a way to adapt the later model cars ABS system but I hear the wiring is the problem.
