6.5" subwoofers

Recommended Posts

Has anyone installed 6.5" subwoofers behind their seats? I have installed MB quart Q-line midrange and tweeters in my doors and dash with an amp behind the engine, but the car needs some bass. Currently, I have 6.5" MB quart speakers behind my seats that were there when I bought the car. I'd like to remove these and install 6.5" JL subs with a sub amp behind the engine. I know 6.5" subs are not the best, but I was surprised how well they sound in a friend's car.

I'm not sure if there is enough depth available behind the seats to do this. Can anyone tell me? Thanks for any help.

The sound system in my V8 has been customised. In other words, they have installed subs in the apatures behind the seats as they are not used due to having the door speakers on later V8 models..

Kenwood subs are what was used but not over impressed in any way.

The room behind the speakers is limited and there is no depth at all.

If you're handy with the whole mdf/fibreglass thing, you can get a 8" or even a shallow 10" (such as JL Audio) behind the glovebox facing onto your passenger's ankles. The size of the enclosure might be a touch small for optimum performance of the sub, but it can still move some air in that tiny cabin if you throw enough watts at it.

I've done this to two of my previous Esprits (a 96V8 and 98V8) with encouraging results.
