JRTurbo909
Without a doubt, everywhere you go in the world there are good people. I believe that. I think that the problem plaguing the people in the US is that they are becoming victims of their countries politics and propaganda. And I believe the rest of the world could be falling into the trap and making it worse. We should all take a hard look at ourselves and realize how much damage that can do. We all deserve better. It seems to me that the American public is being conditioned to fear themselves and their neighbors. Look at what the documentary, Bowling for Columbine reports. Add to that, news events that support its content, and you get kind of concerned about the state of things. The CBC aired a documentary that provides an interesting perspective:: http://www.cbc.ca/passionateeye/powerofnightmares/index.html Then there is Michael Moore Quote My Beautiful Car http://www.glcforum.com/ukesprit/forums/in...CODE=12&CID=182 ... DBredS4
Actually they don't all get along and they do squabble although not in an amazingly aggressive way at all. But, you know, watching them peck and chase each other and then waddle off at a rapid rate, asses and bellies wobbling like jelly, its hard not to laugh out loud, I am sure they think its all hilarious too. They are clumsy and out of their element on land but to watch them swim off, diving in and out just under the surface is astonishing. Total masters of the sea. Anyway, back to turbo's and oil and stuff...
lwasson
The worst thing that happened to the USA was the fall of the Iron Curtain. During the Cold War the Soviets were the Bad Boys and the USA were Good Guys. When the Curtain fell only one super power remained, the USA. Now we are both good and evil in the eyes of the world. We did some pretty stupid things during the Cold War to prevent the spread of communism like give big guns to countries like Irag, Iran, Sudan, etc, etc, etc. Now its coming back to haunt us. I don't know how to make it better and I sure don't want to be a world leader. George Jr. won't gone down in history as one of our best leaders. He's had some pretty bad advice but he should have seen a lot of this coming. The USA is split. This is evident by our past two elections. It will be interesting to see what happens after our next election?? All I know is that I consider many of you to be my friend. Even DbredS4. That last pic of you reminds me of my Red Neck cousin. USAndretti42
My knowledge of history isn't very good but I think the people of Hawai'i might disagree with your last paragraph but certainly their are many countries who have invaded more places than have the States. I suspect there are a number of reasons, jealously being a big one. any people see America as big and powerful with a higher standard of living with all the exciting things one sees on TV series and films and resent Americans because they have so much. Others see Americans coming to help their country as unwelcome interference. They may think they can sort themselves out without outside interference or just resent outsiders full stop. Related to this is that Americans are very patriotic. After 7 years here, I am still suprised at the number of houses flying American flags off their porches and how many people think America is the best place in the world. Nothing wrong with that, but if you are telling that to an Iraqi, I guess it doesn't go down too well. AN\nother reason is that, if you are the ruler of a country with plenty of problems, it's easier to find another country's goverment to blame it on, preferably one that won't retaliate, than to fix the problems. The USA is an ideal candidate for this. MKE40
I consider myself a fervant English nationalist . I love this little rathole of a country, WITH all its faults ........But its MY country.. and I dont give Damn what ever goes on in any other place, it is their wish to have their country run that way or the proletariat would pay the price and change it, that is not my concern , But when outside forces want to intrefere in the way of life that has existed here happily for decades and impose a secondary 'Parliament / Council' this is not on. Too many people gave their lives in living memory to keep the world FREE ( this includes an enormous effort from the Americans, and other countries) to give the freedom of speech that we and the rest of the world 'currently' enjoy. Live and let live ,' Impose not thy will on others' But defend unto death the right to remain independant and free ... My apologies if this sounds a little Churchillian . My Two English pence worth. gpz900r
Reading the thread I notice one trait that simply must be destroyed and that is Generalizations, Sentances like "They hate them" whom hates them. them being whom specifically. Feff <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The early immigrants in North America were tough European adventurers looking for opportunity and a new life. So of course the generations that grew here learned how hard work and sacrifice, in a free society, gained success and wealth. So it stands to reason that the US people have always been known for their get-it-done approach and good work ethic. It has definitely resulted in success, respect, wealth, and pride. However, in the last 40-50 years, for those in power and with influence, this get-it-done approach had sometimes been implemented with a lack of understanding of cause and effect, and, because of past successes and confidence, a certain "cant-fail" arrogance. Get-it-done worked thru most of history, but lets face it, the strategies of the last 40 odd years have not always been wise. Taking people Quote If you set no goals you shall surely reach them.. slade
the biggest current threat to the US surviving as a nation is our own government. And most people seem to be fine with our government slowly taking away rights and operating in the sloppy way that it does. The real reason for the right to bear arms was no offence to canada; it was a protection against tyranny, against our own government (the founding fathers were smart). Unfortunately, (another generalization here) most of the weapons are either owned by folks who shoot at each other, or a certain demographic that will support the US government no matter WHAT it does. Marc, at the rate the world is "progressing" I almost fully believe that humans will have destroyed themselves one way or another in the next 100 years I remember when I bought the Esprit, 9/11 mania was still going on... people would ask me why I would buy a British car, when they "weren't doing enough against terrorism". (keeping in mind my purchase of a then 17 year old British car contributes nothing whatsoever to the GDP of Great Britain... well, back then I foolishly didn't account for bits that would be shipped over here ) Anyways, my point is that those were all people who drove toyotas people here don't think. slade Edited February 4, 2006 by slade Quote "It's called a fire hydrant. Feffman
IMO the US should spend its taxpayers money to support its own country, to solve its internal problems and free its own people from themselves. Get the unfortunate out of poverty and crime; give everyone the opportunity for healthy lives; give the young people education, opportunity, and work ethic, so that the success, respect, wealth, and pride earned by previous generations are passed on. Once again.. that Quote MVP Track Time

Not so much with global warming, see below, but with certain things going on in the world. What the hell is wrong with people????????? Hamas get voted in power in Palestine...great watch this space for a war with Israel - which the Israelis will win at the expense of a general war with Islam worldwide. Iran are generating nuclear capability and, lets face it, are 1 million times the threat Saddam ever was. Especially if the war with Hamas happens as they will just nuke Israel, who will retaliate etc etc. Iraq is still a hotbed and as soon as we pull out watch those Militants take over. Afganistan has rared up again. Gonna go get drunk now. Oh yeah before I do...Global warming!!! 1. As per above I don't think it will be an issue....too far away. 2. we're running out of the major pollutants - fossil fuels anyway. 3. Look at History People!!! This world goes in cycles, it's how it works, we're due global warming followed by a major iceage anytime now anyway, just from nature (a field of cows produces more greenhouse gasses than 1000 cars...apparantly), eruptions etc. 4. I could do with moving to a tropical climate anyway, if it warms up enough I won't need to Now, wheres that whiskey............... Quote Possibly save your life.
