Has anyone fitted EBC (Powerstop) brakes?

Recommended Posts

I was looking at uprating the brakes on my '88 Turbo. I have seen the kits that replace the entire system including the calipers but was wondering if anyone had fitted the EBC brake disks and Greenstuff brakepads (keeping the original calipers)?

If you have perhaps you would be good enough to give your opinion on the results? Do they make enough of a difference to be worth the money or should I splash out on the much more expensive full replacements?

Check out the garage pages - namely mine.

I run EBC greens on the Elise & Esprit and they pull up nicely - I bought them really to replace the bad condition disks and pads on both the cars, they do the job for road driving is all I can say.

I run red stuff on the Esprit.

Personally for what they cost (cheaper than OEM) I rate them but you can obviously get better parts for more money.

Main area of attention would be the pads, I know a lot of Elise chaps who run EBC rotors and pagid RS14 pads and are very happy.

Always remember though the buck stops with the tyres, no point in having awesome brakes if they simply lock the wheels / ABS at the 1st turn. Depends what you're after...as a slight upgrade and replacement they are great imo.

Same boat as Jon really. My discs just needed replacing (well the rears were shot).

The EBC's are realistically priced and look good as well. Althought the fitting will be different on your car I found the rears (rotor and pads) easy to replace. The fronts were another thing (evil screw). I went for greenstuff all round - good enough for me. :P more pics in my garage area.

The calipers are really poor on the pre94 cars and better pads and disc will only improve braking a little. I would look at an upgrade with calipers as this will make a big difference. Remember it's for your own safety!

Thanks for the reply guys. I agree with Kato about the calipers on the older machines (I see the others have better brakes to begin with!). I have had quite a bit of trouble with the originals including binding causing major heating of the back wheels (this is despite being reconditioned).

Kato, do you feel that I should do both back and front at the same time or can I manage with just the fronts for now. I am thinking about the effects of brake balance. Great website by the way.

It's interesting, we spend all our money on making these cars go faster, but very little on making them stop quicker!

Nice looking disc's Simon, I may shell out for a set myself in the near future, lord knows the S4s brakes are abysmal at the best of times (although most of the problem is the Delco ABS). FWIW I've been running portfield R4s pads and found them to be very efficient all-round pads.

Paddle Faster, I hear Banjos!

I am ordering the brake disc upgrade from PUK engineering, Germany...and the suspension kits, too..

I am not driving very fast most of the time, so I think the PUK kit is cheap and good enough + easy to install...

but the ultimate upgrade should be the AP Racing + Brembo from WC Engineering

**check LEW for details
