Its Tinker time again ! Wing mirrors

Recommended Posts

I know Owen's car has them cool S2000 mirrors on, me like, but me also like the originals.

One of the biggest probs for me atm is the car is now in a different garage and I have to fold the mirrors in all the time to get past the door - really annoying.

I've always wanted electric mirrors on the car, wondered if anyone else shares my mental disorder - can it be done or is it an arse in the pain ?

When I suggested that eleccy folding mirrors should be included on the next Gen Esprit I was poo-pooed and shouted down. sad.gif

You'll be looking to cannabalise a set from a small Japanese car I expect?

I've been looking at this too, using something like MR2 Mk2 motors and control box. The MR2 motors have current sensing and therefore stop at the fully in / out positions or if some obstruction is impeding the movement. I haven't done too much on it as I need a spare CX mirror assembly to tinker with.

While we are on about mirrors, anyone know what motor is in the 88 stevens mirrors?

Whilst the Citroen CX mirrors are a bit predicatable (look how many specialist cars used them, from TVR to Venturi) they do tend to blend into the overrall design. It would be pot luck to find an equally subtle off the shelf part that didn't look tacked on.

In the garage no-one can hear you scream

When Peter Stevens gave us a chat at Dunston Hall in 2008 he said he liked the mirrors so much as they were a good look on pretty much any shaped car and aerodynamically sound, he used them a lot, on 5 cars I think he said.

Dont get me wrong - I like them I just wondered whether there is a cheap motorised version to be hand.

I've actually gone to my plan A which is using a hooked stick to move it

I wonder how much Jaguar charged for the XJ220 wing mirrors ? hehe
