Good Evening

Nifty

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to introduce myself.

I joined up last night having decided to purchase an S3 Turbo in a rash moment of retail therapy having found myself single again :D:D

I live in Lotus county (farming), not too far from Hethel and have many friends who either do or have worked for Lotus, so where better to live if you're contemplating a renovation project. I quizzed one of them last night about retrimming the Esprit, only to find out he was one of two people who went over to Guigiaro's studio back in the 70's to design the interior fitment

I have owned a normally aspirated S3 in the past but sold it when times were harder and I had a Finnish girlfriend (which entailed expensive plane flights).

I currently have a Caterham 7 Supersport and am an active member of the Lotus 7 Club. I intend to keep the 7 and add the Esprit to the garage for road use, converting the 7 to a more track biased car (though I may end up selling it to fund the Esprit project).

Well that's all.

Hope to pick your collective brains in due course and if you are anything like the L7C crowd then this will become my second encyclopaedia and font of all knowledge.

Regards,

Nifty.

Kimbers,

You don't have a yellow S3 Esprit do you?

A friend of mine said there was one for sale in Wymondham.

The trimmers name is Cedric Blackwell.

I also know Mark Hicks and his Dad (whose first name escapes me) and have had a fleeting association with Bob Dance.

Mark worked for Lotus, then Team Lotus before going on to win the championshhip with Williams and Le Mans with Bentley. He's currently No1 mechanic on the Irish A1GP car. His dad worked with Bob Dance on the Cortinas and then went on to be test driver for the Lotus Sunbeam. He was also heavily involved in the test driving for active suspension. Mark recalls stories of sitting on the centre console of an Esprit when being taken to various showgrounds by his parents in the 70s because Mr Chapman had sent his dad off to do some free publicity!!

My 7 is Audi metallic green with yellow nosecone and cycle wings ... as per my avatar - picture taken of me coming around Fradley Hairpin at Curborough sprint track, Staffs.

Paul C,

Yes, it might be.

I sold it to a chap called Brian from Shepparton who was going to totally strip it down and rebuild it.

The reg at the time was NDZ 3345.

Any ideas?

Hang on. Let's see if I got this right. You sold a beautiful S3 so you could afford to keep seeing a Finnish girl?

Don't you realize that there are only a few thousand Esprits in the world while there are millions of Finnish women of all shapes and sizes.

Glad you have come to your senses and re-joined the fold.

Welcome to the club! B)

The Esprit will work out cheaper than the girlfriend in the long run - trust me!

Don't I know that .. especially since she had a Saab convertible that needed a lot of money spent on it, some of which is still owed to me.

Sad thing is she loves the 7 .. as did her daughters .. and so would love the Esprit too.

The Esprit won't be that cheap because I am buying it as a prospective renovation project, possibly slotting a V8 in !!:D

I'll drop you an E-mail.

Hiya Nifty,

I'm near Norwich also, azure blue GT3 near the airport ind est most days.

Having been around Snetterton in a 7 I know I will have one one day, but would like it as a trackday car, so no room in the garage at this point in my life. However if there is a 7 meet locally, I'd love to pop along and drool.

Also you might like to know of the local Lotus meet, 3rd weds of every month 7.30pm onwards, at Dunston Hall, its mainly Elises, and I haven't been for over a year, however people are/were friendly and I have been meaning to pop along for a few months now. So maybe meet you there one time.

hope your project runs smoothly and if you fancy going to the Oxford meet and need a lift, would be happy to oblige.

James,

Great to hear from you.

I'd love to come along to the Lotus meeting at Dunston Hall.

I guess this smonth's was yesterday.

The local L7C meeting (The Carrotlanders) is the first Monday of the month at the Cornwallis Arms (just south of Diss on the A140), the next one being 6th March. Everyone is welcome and other Loti are more than welcome (Westfields are frowned upon and Robin Hoods are turned away at the county border :):) ).

I should have the Turbo home by then and will probably take it rather than the 7, since the 7 isn't MoT'd and I am unlikely to get it done for then since I'm trying to prep it for a trackday on 2nd March.

What and when is the Oxford run??

Shah - yes I had got Kimbers right then.
