Engine cover floor removal

Recommended Posts

How the heck do you get the little bits of floor off, you know the bit each side of the removable engine cover, by the rear side windows, held on with 3 easily visible screws. There must be another one tucked away underneath ?

Such a b****er to see or feel where though !

I'm sure its dead simple !

:)

Got a rattle somewhere in that region, so want to see whats down there, lots of pipes & stuff. probably a lost spanner !

Steve, its the nearside I'm trying first, it looked the easiest. The bits very flimsy, I could just yank it off but that seems a bit drastic. I'm hoping there either a little screw somewhere or a clip. Could do with one of those dentist mirror things on a stick to see.

Cheers,

Tony

Tony, you havent got a mirror on a stick! :)

You need one of those to do 99% of all work on an Esprit :)

Ask your dentist to borrow his this weekend :)

I thought those carpeted trim pieces by the engine compartment windows were held in with 4 philips screws :P

Ive only had the bleeding things out half a dozen times, so I cant remember all that well.

If you think getting them out's difficult, wait till you try to put them BACK!!! I doubt there are any more fasteners, they're like a Chinese puzzle, you twiddle and tug and tug and twiddle and finally -LO! - it's come out. And you still don't know how.....

To replace; reverse above procedure!

Bought the square mirror last year and immediately didn't like using it in the engine bay - the edges get caught up on things and are sharp.

The round mirror is much better. Also, get one of those extremely bright spotlights - it'll show you things to worry about that you didn't even know were there.

Definitely a good movie, but the wrong picture.

And I will not post the correct picture here, as this forum is open to the public and minors might have access to it...

Ahh yes, well , hmm, one of those round tuit jobs. No spanner, but t'other side revealed the air intake silencer canister thing to be rollicking around - bit of foam stopped that & the clonks, or at least some of them ..

Mind you in the meantime I've replaced the rear discs, had the rear calipers rebuilt & done all the passes in the lakes ...
