Beady
as we are approaching that time of year, I thought it would be interesting to hear where people are going on holiday this year. Alternatively what was your best holiday - to give some inspiration for those still thinking about it. We have just booked a fairly cheap family road trip to france in summer- staying at a keycamp holiday centre - taking the family plus the dog and driving there. Never done that before so will be an experience. Not taking the lotus!! Also trying to book a 'proper' holiday as well. Thinking of going to vietnam in april (other half enjoyed the top gear special so much...) Has anyone been? So where are you all going and where have you been that you recommend? jimmybondi
This summer: going to South of France also (Theoule s/mer) - we have booked a nice house there. Best holiday ever? matk
Seeing as we've had two mentions of France already, don't forget if anyone is passing South Central France kind of near Limoges, and fancies a coffee or meet up drop me a line. As far as the question goes, for me it was Kefalonia in the Greek Isles for best holiday, but the best places I've been were both in the RAF, Kuantan Malaysia, and The Faroe Islands. Loose Cannon
We are going to Techno Classica Essen for the weekend, and then Normandy for the D-Day week (not expecting a suntan this year then). Best holiday was Rhodes, but that might have been because we didn't have kids back then! 1 Quote In the garage no-one can hear you scream
esprit350
we are off back to India, flying into Delhi then spending a couple of nights in a 14th century fort in before flying on to Guwahati in Assam where we have a house after a week we then fly to southern India to tour Kerela before coming home. best Holiday was probably 2007 when we spent some time swimming with whale sharks in the Gulf of Cortez, Baja. to see where else I have been check out my tripadvisor map on the link below Quote The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. ramjet
I'm not going anywhere. Current company that I contract to has been canned by the company it was in an alliance with so I'm in the middle of going for interviews and trying to get a job with either of the two engineering firms that have taken over the contracts. Please refer to the map I posted in Drunken Ramblings for my position on the globe of European holiday destinations. Envy you guys over there for that. Advantage
We're off to Canada (Banff again) at Easter to catch the last of the season's snow, but don't have anything planned for summer as yet - but living so close to the sea it's no hardship to stay here. Intending to get down to Mat's French Frolic (see his post above) in July but that will just be me as school holidays won't have started by then. molemot
Once again, I'm hoping to get my little boat to Paris for a few weeks, moored in the Bassin d'Arsenal; the only moorings I know from which one can walk to the Opera! Everything man can desire is within walking distance..magic! This has been my intention for the past 5 years or so, but keeps getting done for by extraneous considerations... but this year looks promising. Kimbers
Last years holiday to Cyprus was Ideal and we spent so long just lazing about on a speedboat or by the pool that we only got to see half of what we wanted to, so we're going back in June. None of this built up area's tho. We rented a villa on the Akamas penninsula. Nice and quiet. Can't wait! Quote Possibly save your life. Paul C
Me and Vicki have been together ten years and only been on holiday once, and that was on the back of selling the Esprit! Now i don't have an Esprit we are doing holidays and we go to New york in april. I hardly ever travel, i don't like being transported and don't like being a tourist or near tourists, in fact i hate tourists! (maybe 20 years in Oxford has done that to me???) In fact when we went to amsterdam and paris i had not left the country for so long that i had to go for an interview to get a passport! I also don't like being hot and am very unhappy in the sun, so i'd pay the money NOT to be on the beach in photos you guys have put up, Vicki goes on Sunny beach holidays with her mates to save me that. New York will be a good break for me, i love walking and once i'm there i can spend time wandering about and looking at stuff between eating hotdogs. Am very much looking forward to being there. Because i have never wanted to go anywhere hot, and have driven or gone by train to europe, this will actually be the first time i've been on a big plane! Have been in small aircraft only, but i have no concerns other than the time from leaving my house to getting to my hotel, it will be twice the time i have ever spent in transit and i just wish i was just there already as Planes/buses/trains are nasty places to be, like long tube shaped doctors waiting rooms, full of coughing, dirty, ugly, smelly, nasty strangers being annoying and sat too close. And the occasional nice, good looking, sweet smelling, happy, mentally sound and perfectly normal person like me.
Advantage
Why don't you and Vicki get seats next to each other on the 'plane? Or have you just unwittingly insulted her...? Have to agree with your tourist/people rant though. Most places I've been to would be infinitely better if there were no people there. (Staff excluded of course) You'll be fine on the 'plane, but be prepared to be mind-numbingly bored.
Paul C
be prepared to be mind-numbingly bored. Like i never have been before. It's the means to an end so i'll just have to hack it i suppose. Did not use any public transport last year such is my dislike of being one of the cattle, last november was the first time i have ever taken a train to London, as i have always driven. I don't even like films over 2 hours at the cinema as i get restless and fidgity like a child, i got up and walked up and down the foyer a bit during lord of the rings! But nothing sucks as much as having to sit somewhere boring for hours and wait for something nice. As i say, cannot wait for the moment all the drives, flights, bus transfers etc are done and i'm walking out of my hotel, 'there'.

davegtst
Dave which Maldive did you go to? I have tried Vakarufhali, Reethi Beach and last year Nika We went to villu reef which is i think one of the islands furthest south. Loved every minute of it, it's so relaxing and peaceful, nowhere else we've been comes close to it. We may be going back later in the year (wife's a travel agent which helps) but not sure which island to go to yet.

esprit s2
This years holiday is honeymoon. We're ferrying down to Bilbao and then driving to Bordeaux (yep, in the Esprit)for a few nights, then to Sarlat (Dordogne area of france) for a week in a cottage. Then a couple of nights in Bourges mid france, then a couple of nights in Versailles, Paris (staying at the Waldorf Astoria!). Should be great! Many photos will be taken.
