Recommended Posts

I'm in need of some ashtrays for my S1 restoration project

I don't know if they are the same as later models?

I'd really like some before I retrim the car.

Thanks,

Phil

Hi Phil,

On S1s made in 1977-on (in the sills), they are from an MGB:

The correct ones for Esprit S1s are black crinkle finish with black crinkle lid in the marcasite cars, and chrome with a chrome lid in the tartan cars. Those specific combinations are a little hard to find, but they are out there if you look around. The one that usually turns up when I'm looking is chrome with a black crinkle lid.

I think the center console ash tray found on early (1976) S1s is the same as certain years of Maserati Ghibli (late 60s-early 70s); I saw one in a Ghibli recently, and have seen a couple in photos, but am not sure which years, or what other models found in.

I got 2 delivered last week from S J, they were silver though, as I saw an S1 with silver ones and didn't know any better.

I'll give Steve a ring this week and get a pair of black ones, he did ask me what colour. But I didn't have a clue if they are right or not, as the car didn't have any when I bought it. Well see what he has.

Thanks,

Phil

I believe the early centre ashtray is a Citroen part, possibly from the SM?
