Gas Strut - Interior/Exterior/Lights/Glass/ICE/HVAC & Other - The Lotus Forums Jump to content

Hi guys,

I recently removed my bonnet and upon re-attaching it I have come across a problem. I've having some major dramas getting the gas strut back on. It's fully extended and it's longer than the gap between where it needs to be fixed. I can't compress it at all to make it fit. It was on there before so theoretically it should go back on.

I hope there's a simple solution.

Cheers

Daryl

Solution 1 Eat more Weeties

Solution 2 Local rugby leauge training night.

Seriously I could only just compress the ones for the Esprit hatch pushing as hard as I could against the work bench, but I'm on 5' 4" and 70 kilos more musscle should do the job.

Hi Daryl,

Met you on one of the fish and chip runs one night. I'm coming up to Perth on the 1st. Should be able to drop by and help. PM me your address. I did the bonnet on my S4 and had no dramas at all.

That is unless you get it sorted before then.

Michael.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your offer and sorry it's taken me a while to respond.

I tried to send you a pm but it wouldn't let me.

What time are you heading up to Perth? I'm on night shift so I won't be awake until mid-afternoon.

Cheers

Daryl

Having just replaced mine (89 excel) for a brand new one, no compressing was needed at all. Used a tail gate strut from a range rover classic. Has the same part number.

Wonder if yours may have been replaced by a non origonal at some point?

Not that this helps you get yours on at all

Ted
