Alpine won't play dvds

Recommended Posts

My dad just purchased and received his new Evora last week. He has tried to use the DVD player and is receiving an error code. "Regional Code Violation" Has anyone else experienced this? It almost seems like they put a Europe version of the alpine stereo in the car. Any help would be appreciated.

Not that I suspect I have the answer but where are you based? UK Region 2 also covers Western Europe, Japan and S. Africa. Most DVD players or computers have the ability to be changed at least once in the set up although have not seen that on the Alpine during my searches through it, but maybe is an option on first boot up or on reset by dealer. (Unit fully out of dash required for this)

I also assume that you are talking about car stopped and handbrake on? At least in UK market and many others it is illegal to play a DVD when moving/driving if the driver can see it. Not that I am saying clever, but by lifting handbrake 1 notch it over rides that control function.

There was a posting about 6 months ago more about this from memory if you go looking.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

Al. Thank you for the quick reply. Currently, we reside in the US. We were trying the DVD player while stopped. Thank you about for the info about the handbrake. If able to get it to work, we might have to try that. I guess I should place a call to the dealership.

I have the same problem with the DVD player in my new Evora. "Region Violation" -- the player is definitely programmed for some region other than 1 "United States." There is a 4-digit country code which is indeed set to the USA, but that is apparently not the same as the region code. I can play the DVD's I burned myself, but I can't play any of my region 1 commercial DVDs.
