Has anybody powder-coated suspension parts? (not dampers/springs)

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I was wondering whether anybody has powder-coated other suspension parts like hubs and arms, as they too eventually get dirty and sometimes with a thin layer of rust...

Cheers,

Francesco

I have some top front wishbones that have been powder coated, not sure if it's a great idea, but certainly not a really bad idea. The challenge is that you don't want to bake the bushes for fear of altering their properties. So you need to put them in after the coating, but for that you need the holes to be clear, either you cut away the coating that has gone into that area, or you have to get the person doing the coating to remove all traces from the holes (that's my preference).

I note you've gone for a non-Lotus way of adjusting rear toe, or is you adjust toe the way in the the manual and that's for camber? Any particular reason for doing it that way?

Andy, you have hawk eyes!

it is meant for adjusting camber, didn't like the way it is done in the upper link, toe is adjusted the normal way.

I currently have the same type of item, but on the top. I'm about to go for a bushed adjuster to give more compliance back to the system, it's a bit harsh on my spine as it is (new Lotus dampers & springs, Elise S1 seats). Yours look to be1/2 inch rose joints, I went 3/4 so that the bungs were bigger and I could user bigger tube, this time I'm happy smaller tube would have been fine.

This looks absolutely excellent, did you take apart the suspension and treat all the parts with por 15 yourself?

Cheers,

Francesco

many thanks Francesco.

tbh i have taken the complete car apart and started to build it up again.

Only thing is that at the moment time is a bit limited due to the other 'projects'

i have. The goal is to have the chassis/ engine complete this year and start

work on the body next year. There is a story on this car in the projects section.

reminds me: I definatly need to do an update!!
