esprit s2
As some of you know I am getting married in a couple of months and we are honeymooning in the Esprit to Spain and France. Need to get some decent breakdown cover that will keep her happy (I know we won't break down, my car is fantastic!). Any ideas/suggestions? gghc87
Paul Worth checking with your insurance company as most of them now offer breakdown in uk and eu. My insurer (classicline) charge me £39 for uk & eu cover for the year. Quote Cliff Men marry women with the hope they will never change. Women marry men with the hope they will change. IanQ
BIG WARNING!!! Check your policy wording really carefully. They will certainly help you in the event of a breakdown but some policies won't recover you if you have had an accident in the car. Try Peter Best Insurance ( Maldon Essex). I have all our cars with them and now understand exactly what Comprehensive cover means. davegtst
ANOTHER BIG WARNING!!! Don't know about other companies but if the value of the recovery home comes to more than the value of the car the AA will just leave you there!
Bibs
Flux Rescue arrived with me within 35 mins in Belgium and the car and I were home within 12 hours. Not bad for £50 or so! Dave, even the cheapest Lotus is £7k upwards so I don't think that will be an issue unless you break down on the moon however what's the value of the car got to do with recovery? Will they pay you for a new car instead? What happens when a £150 Fiesta breaks down in Staines, do they refuse to recover it? davegtst
With a £150 fiesta in England sometimes they may offer to scrap it and get you hame another way but they won't refuse it. You're right bibs, with an Esprit it should not be an issue but with a lesser value car you could run into trouble.
peteyg
My Footman James insurance covers me for Euro breakdown and Recovery but like you said Paul, you're not going to breakdown anyway! 2 out of 3 eurotrips I've done resulted in one mechanical problem or another but both were fixed by a friendly mechanic who were more than happy to help because it was an Esprit not another Citoen or Peugot! You'll be fine! Pete Quote Pete '79 S2 LEW Miss September 2009
ajheath
Thought I would bring this up again as insurance costs have moved on since 2010. I was just looking for cover for this years 2 trips to Le mans and a possible trip to France in September all in the Esprit. My current insurance provider does not do Euro breakdown cover as part of our multi car policy and I have been a little shocked at some of the quotes I have been getting back. AA, (bear in mind I am a member paying a small fortune for uk cover on my 3 cars) £178 for annual cover or £68.54 per trip. Green Flag £177 for annual (but that does include UK as well) or £99.50 per single trip Euro cover only. Best price so far has been £74.99 for annual European cover from a company called rescuemycar.com. Anyone heard of them? Has anybody got any better prices for cover that is not part of your annual insurance cover? Seems to most that a 16 year old Lotus is an issue. Bibs
Flux Rescue was very good when my Esprit needed recovering from Antwerp a couple of years ago but isn't ADAC the default choice nowadays for euro cover? Whirlybird
Just a little bump. Has anyone had cause to use the euro breakdown cover which is an extra £35 if you are with Classicline insurance ? They say, breakdown and vehicle repatriation, for £35. Sounds perfect Quote I have CDO, it's like OCD but all the letters are in alphabetical order, AS THEY SHOULD BE !
Gold FFM Sparky Posted April 22, 2013 Gold FFM Report Share Posted April 22, 2013 I believe wookie did when his Mantis gave up in very deep, deep France. He made his own way home (expenses paid) and the car followed a couple of days later. A very good experience according to him. Stuno1
Just wondered who people use? Is there a general consensus that a specific provider is best for the evora in terms of price and service. I know I get AA discount being a member but they are always top of try price stack in the first place. Stu

Bravo73
My bank. It comes as part of my Nationwide FlexPlus account. BTW, isn't this more of a 'General Motoring' query?

Really polite service and when I explained how low the car was they sent a new looking flatbed with a top bloke who took photographic evidence of the cars condition before taking it unescorted to B & C! £10 a month btw
dave excell
My sons car broke down while he was on holiday in the south of France some time ago. It was worth about £250-00 and was covered by Green Flag for recovery. However they refused to recover it because it was over 10 years old, despite having paid the extra premium for recovery. They did pay for a hire car back to Calais and I had to go over and pick his girlfriend, him and the luggage up from the port. My Esprit V8 is now 19 years old and the Excel 26 years old so I do make sure of what the company will and wont do before I pay out.
Chillidoggy
I have Classicline insurance, I think it's about £250 for everything, including agreed value, and Euro recovery. I haven't used the recovery, and I hope never to have to, but you never know. Quote Margate Exotics.
