I DON'T F&CKING BELIEVE IT!

My car has hit 30k in milage and it's now losing coolant.

I've done 7k miles since I got it in September last year and the coolant light has come on today for the first time.

It's taken 2 pints to bring the level back to the prongs and I cannot see any leaks anywwhere on the car.

I'm going to keep a third eye on this until I can get it booked in and tested but I'm paranoid that it's the liners.

It's never ever overheated from my ownership or the guy before me, and although I have a comprehensive warranty on the car, the liners themselves don't fail, it's the sealer, which if the warranty company want to get funny, can say it's consumable and therefore leave me with a

Hi,

I had a problem with fluid lose and warning lights; similar age car, but less miles.

Turned out it was a hose way up under the head on one bank.

Needed to presurise the system overnight to find the week hose.

Don't dispare or assume the worst!

Jim

Best way is to pressurise the block and see if there are leaks.

Hope it's not a big fault Martyn - if so gimme a shout I can forward you some info on the job that might safe you a few quid.

Thanks to all for the replys and the PM's

I'll check hoses and connections (assuming I can find them all) and see where we go from there.

I'm going to run up to Donnington so i'll see how much I lose on that run.

Thinking aloud, can you add a dye to the coolant to help trace where a potential leak is?

Maybe the dumbest question of the year but as the V8 has a complex series of pipes etc, It would help find the rascal.

Rob Baker did a test on his car to confirm it was leaking liners. If mine ever go I'll be going down to see Pat Thomas at Kelvendon Motors to have mine done. Can't get much cheaper than his quote and his experience is excellent so Iam told!

You had the car up on some ramps to give it the once-over with a torch from underneath? My '99 Sport 350 (40k ish miles) looks to have been leaking from the bottom right corner of the rad as there was clear signs of corrosion on the fan housing and in that area of the body.

All replaced now tho' so hopefully leak cured.

Yep and when you add it hope you can see it, my original V8 had the ultraviolet die and we could not find it anywhere. This was one of the first cars with the liner problems.

As a local, a word of warning what ever he is quoting will be much lower than you end up paying.

A number of people have found this out. He is 10 miles from me but I'm much happier going further afield to another specialist.

Regards

Fred
