What's happening here then?

Taking the "added lightness" mantra to new levels perhaps?

As it seems almost obligatory nowadays not to pay for something if you can persuade others to do so for you - answers on the back of a £20 note please.

Note to self: "Must make the clues harder next time!"

I've finally got around to doing something about it having bought the wing in April 2016. At least nobody can accuse me of being impetuous, :P.

Sorry Gavin but unfortunately you don't win anything as you didn't abide by the T's & C's - 'entries on the back of a £20 note'.  :excl:

Hi all,

i finally got round to fitting the GRP GT led lights today, really pleased with the quality, there’s a reflector built in to the center, and no warning lights on the dashboard with the LED indicators :) I’ve included a photo with the standard lights on one side, and new on the other as well. These are the smoked version, but don’t look as dark in the flesh than in photos. I do have the originals, and will be keeping them, but pleased with how these are looking.

Agreed... 👍

..."that shape just stays looking so good"....

Car bodies that seem to survive the test of time more successfully seem to be the more flowing and rounded designs like the S1 Elise, S1 Exige and now the S1 Evora!

I agree, I think the S1 Sport Racer spec will be the one to have, if only for the interior. I’ve had mine 4 years now and really should trade up to a GT but I know my SR will be the one I’ll be saying “I should have kept it”.....I just need more garages!

That's personal choice. I think the cleanest looking and the ones that follow the design brief and the original mock-up car best are the original S1's before the SR.

The shape is not affected by the SR black paint and whilst the seats look nicer with their piping in the SR, the original S1 interior with its silver METAL inlays for then dash and HVAC controls is just so right, whereas the SR's black plastic coating are a bit meh to my eyes.

In my eyes, an original S1 LE, in tip top condition, will be the sweetest of spots in a traditional Lotus colour.  The oyster interior on LE looks superb too and aquamarine with oyster seemed to be a popular LE choice and that will age very well in my opinion.

Only time will tell as to who is right here but the S1 NA is pretty hard to beat as a driving package and the extra weight of the S does lose of the "finesse" and the "experience" of the NA.  An NA with tweeks to give around 310-320bhp is a real sweet and sugary experience.

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

Regarding the cost, you could say the same about the Evora. Apart from the blower, you didn't get an awful lot more for your money in an S than you did in an equivalent spec. N/A, yet (correct me if I'm wrong) I think there was approaching 10 grand RRP price difference.

Of course neither version sold like hot cakes, but that's another story.

I think you may have exposed one of the internal wrangles at Lotus- the difference between what the designers aimed for, and what the marketing people wanted.

The S1 Eora was conceived as a 2+2 seater Elise. Ie simple lightweight as possible, no frills.

The marketing people wanted a cheap Esprit - comfort and modernity, unfortunately that added weight.  An S1 Evora with no air con , no stereo and little sound proofing may have been a good car to drive, but I would suggest it wouldn't have had many sales. By the time the comfort extras were added, then it needed more power, hence the sc.

That didn't last long... I've had to put the original lights back on, as the new LED ones seemed to be causing the traction control light to come on/disable the sport button :( Ive contacted the manufacturer to see what could be causing it.

Was it really?  I thought the Evora was the first product to expand the then Lotus line-up beyond the track-specialised offerings with the aim of creating a more practical car that would appeal to more non traditional Lotus customers which is why it was much larger and more refined inside.  I need to go and read my Evora book again.

Interesting article from 2008 explains the thinking back then, with the new Esprit being available within 3 years (at 70K).
