Differential

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've always understood that the non S350 Esprit's had an open diff, and I have little reason to believe that mine is anything other than standard in this department.

however ....

I can push the back end out with relative ease using a heavy right foot, and was even doing donuts in a wet car park about half an hour ago.

I'm of the opinion that this shouldn't be possible with an open diff as the car will pick up one of the wheels leaving the other doing little more than holding the car in place.

Can someone put me right on the above? The reason I ask is that sometime towards the summer I will almost certainly be going with Derek Bell's Gearbox jobby, an LSD being on the shopping list also {purely to satisfy the hooligan in me } I don't really want to go forking out on one if someone's already done as such .....

Thankyou people <3

Hey, can anyone smell fuel?????

No it is possible with an open diff, even with my SE (with less than 300hp) and V8 Wheels and tires.

The open diff will still spin both wheels if tracton is equal for both tires, and you give it enough gas to overcome traction. Easy to do in the wet.

If traction should become greater for one tire, then that tire will slow and the other tire will be sent more power (causing it to spin faster).

BTW, only the Sport 300 and X180-R came with limited slips. THe Sport 300 had a geared Torsen type, and the X180-R had a clutch type ZF LSD.

The Sport 350 had an open diff like all other Esprits.
