Hi,

When I removed the gearbox from my Eclat S1 it was quite straightforward with the engine already out. I'm guessing you've already got some support under the bellhousing(?). What I did was undo the bolts on the rear mount (I think there were four but could be wrong) - on the Excel it was definitely 4 bolts, and the access is much easier. Make sure the car is secure on ramps or axle stands before you go underneath.

I then put a trolley jack under the bellhousing and pulled the box forward into the engine bay on the trolley jack, once clear of the chassis I lowered it, then just picked it up out of the engine bay. If you're not happy with lifting that weight (it is quite heavy and requies you to twist your back) then use a hoist to lift it out. Good luck!

Cheers, Mat.

Oh yeah you have to take the gear lever out, and on the Lotus gearbox you have to put it in gear first (can't remember which gear) or bits all spin round inside and it doesn't go back together! I'll take a look in my manual for which gear it should go in - I think it's second or third. Put it in gear, bend down the locking tab and undo the gearstick, then pull it out, making sure you've got the small plastic insert that goes in the bottom of the lever.

Once the lever is off the whole thing slides forward easily.

Cheers, Mat.

"Manual" says 'select 3rd or 4th to prevent ball socket joint from dis-engaging, then release the gearlever locking tabs..'

The bit that caught me out was that lift the tabs, not flatten then.
