Noisy topend

Hi,

My top end's a bit noisy when the engine's cold.

Over the winter, when it's really icy cold the top end has been noisy when she's first been started and running for a few minutes. I've just put this down to oil that has become treacle thick because of the cold and not pressurising the cam followers enough and not really worried about it.

But tonight it was not that cold, I started the car left her idling for a few minutes, then went to her and set off. She was a bit noisy for a good half mile, it just didn't seem right.

I know I'm being a bit vague, it's just you know your car and it just didn't seem right tonight.

I'm using 15x50 Mobil 1 Motorsport oil.

Can someone just give me a bit of gen on this if poss? Whether I should be worried or not etc???

I guess it would depend on whether it's always been that way or it's just started. I'm sure I've read many times that a good Lotus engine is noisy when cold and quiet when hot. A bad un is the opposite. I've always found a bit of top end noise when the engine is warming up on all but one of the four pots I've owned. Never owned a V8 so it might not apply but I would be suprised if it did not.
