What made you UNHAPPY today!

Markerstudy are insurance brokers not underwriters

They are currently seeking regulator approval to move into different areas of GI and are about to migrate the book of a well known household insurer to their underwriting systems and I believe also operate a number of industry insurance packages for different GI products.

Would recommend people look at their online rep, which probably supports what Pete said above...

I can’t defend the entire industry, or pretend that things don’t go wrong. Same can be said for every industry. I can say that my company and colleagues put in massive effort to make sure that “we always do the right thing“.

And different commissions at that, which will be reflected in the price. If the insurer needs £100. One broker demands £10 commission and the other £20, guess what the premium will be for each.

£400 and £500 is my view!  Prejudiced I know.... ;)

Constantly amazed by people trying to defend an "industry's poor reputation". It's a general perception it is poor because generally a significant percentage of customers have either had a bad experience or been let down. So the poor reputation is generally fair and deserved.

Now, I think we all know there will be exceptions. There will be be companies that are generally poor but every now and then pull it out of the bag. And there will be very good and solid companies within a generally poor industry.

For my own part, I had a huge amount of water damage (the whole of the upstairs of my house needed gutting and all personal belongings upstairs damaged/lost).  My insurance company was MoreThan. All I can say is that they were absolutely, bloody, brilliant.  Easy to deal with and did what they said they would.  However, my experience was shite!  How come? Well they used a 3rd party claims manager (who really could not have managed her way out of an unlocked room with the light on) and a third party reinstatement company who used so called trades that we are as competent as a four year old with a hammer in a china shop!  I don't hold that against MoreThan, the bit they "owned" they did well and I've been loyal to them ever since and to be fair they did not ramp the premiums up to a stupid level (the total cost of my claim was around £75k so not insignificant).

Sames goes for builders - generally poor experiences leads to a generally poor reputation. However, there are gems out there and some that even go the extra mile. If they weren't 350 miles away my next building job would go to these people:

On the first point, commission disclosure is a requirement if asked - ask!! I can't express an opinion, but happy to share with you next time we share a bottle of red!

On the second point, you missed unreal expectations. I can categorically tell you that people expect insurers to pay for everything, maintenance, general wear and tear etc. You would laugh at some of the issues raised. People forget that it is there for the unexpected not the expected and it covers what you buy a policy to cover not anything that subsequently happens that you think should have been covered.

It's like buying a screwdriver then complaining you cannot bang a nail in with it very well.

Anyway, generally I've given up defending generally, simply not worth it.

I've seen our company review denied claims , realise that the denial was in line with terms but that it wasn't what we meant to be excluded. So go back and pay the claim and re-write claims handling rules so that future equivalent claims get paid straight away.

OK, that's not common, because often the denied claims are, shall we say, questionable.... For example the phone in question was in use several times a day for all visible history, then all activity stopped and 48hrs later an insurance was taken out and unluckily the phone was then damaged....... Thankfully most customers are not like that.

You've used my builder then?

@Colin P - joking apart, as I said in my post when I needed them, my insurer was there and did a good job. Credit where it is due and just to give them more spotlight it was Morethan who did more than enough.

Having to deal with Sky TV. What a nightmare.

Turned a simple request to cancel (out of minimum contract term, by about 10 years) into what will now be a full complaint to Chief Exec, and turned me from a happy customer who was simply leaving to get a better deal elsewhere, into a never-to-return type of detractor ex-customer.

Re insurance. Have always wondered how the insurance companies have got away with calling policies fully comprehensive when they are nothing like

hindsight: the science that is never wrong

Sky the same as Virgin then! Second rudest and must aggressive conversation I ever had was when trying to cancel Virgin. The women was basically trying to convince me that without FTTH I would lose my job and my family and be unable to watch any programs on streaming services ever again...

The rudest still goes to SSE who, when I rang up to tell them that they couldn't read a meter and perhaps they might spot that they were over charging me by a factor of 10 and it would be impossible for one house to consume as much gas as they were charging me for, they flat out called me a liar and accused me of trying to scam them!

My 40 year old Seiko Automatic Chronograph wristwatch that I got as a present from my parents, now both gone, has ticked its last tick and cannot be repaired. Parts are no longer available.

That's a real shame as someone who's spent fare to much on watches over the years I feel for you as I to have my old uncles WW2 Eterna and did manage to get the correct plexiglass replacement I would be heart broken not to be able to keep it in working order

Sorry to read that Michael. Am not a watch person* - having lost both my parents over the last few years, I can understand the link that is now lost.

Well I suppose I still have it, so that is one nice thing.

At the risk of asking the obvious, have you tried searching for a specialist?  It might cost a few bucks, but there must be someone out there with what you need?

The watch was given to a repairer in the shops near where i live. It was sent away to, I presume, a specialist repairer. After a month, I got the response that it could ne be saved.

Having said that, I am a stubborn bugger. I am going to make an enquiry directly to Seiko and I may trawl the internet and see if I can find anything myself.

I saw a similar model on fleabay for 850 Euro. Quite astonished actually.

Yes you may well be able to get a secondhand movement if it was a popular model.

If all else fails which I hope it doesn't and not wanting to hijack this post the new Grand Seiko SBGR253 is a cracking watch hope you strike lucky

Found him. Have sent details for a quote. It will quite likely be more than the watch is worth but.............

Surely it's not about the financials but the sentimental/memory value that is more important?
