Travis,

What frequency Analysis application you have used?

"I have even used my phone to tension my Esprit timing belt with an acoustic frequency analysis application ;)"

I'm more than interested to check my timing belts

Upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S Already developed and downloaded my first app to my phone -something you can't do with an iphone without paying for the development kit,

Wish I had stuck with the Android Galaxy phones. A friend told me how wonderful the Windows phones were so I upgraded to one of those - What a mistake, cannot wait for the contract to end to upgrade b

My Dell Streak has just upgraded to 2.1 which is a big improvement over 1.6. I'm looking forward to the 2.2 upgrade which should be in the next month or two. :)

I used Frequency Analyzer on the Android phone for the timing belt (compared it to Tune!it on the pc laptop). It is tricky, since it doesn't display the primary frequency for long though.

I have also used Spectral Audio Analyzer, which shows it for longer, but doesn't give a nice number, just a graph over time.

I got an HTC Desire on Friday and initially I am impressed by the speed of the thing compared to my iPhone 3G running 4.02.

Easily set up for Exchange Server Sync and I get my emails etc pushed to it, just as good as the iPhone.

Is there an App available for the Forum?

Yo,Travis! You out there, bro?

OK, so I bought the Samsung Captivate, and so far am quite happy with its features, especially the display screen's crispness and color (note colonial spelling used for "intra U.S." postings:) ) quality.

Downloaded the MotoSpeak app for use with the Motorola "text to speech" headset, and it works like a champ. Still trying to find a "name dial" function, but there are menus within menus, and an initially steep learning curve, but it's getting easier as time goes by. You implied that that feature required the Android 2.2 version, and I'm seeking a little clarification on this. On my old phone, I had to program a person's name into the contact's "vitals" when creating (or editing) a new number. It sounds like the 2.2 software is able to recognize the name in a sort of "default to caller I.D. information" manner. Did you find it necessary to type in the caller's name to enable "voice/name dial" capability, or did it just "know?" That would be pretty slick indeed! Still expecting AT&T to release the 2.2 version for the Captivate soon.

Separate question: With the previously mentioned (several posts back) caveat about the "glitchs" with the Google Map GPS app (at least with the Captivate at the moment--also expecting a fix to be available soon for that as well), how does one delete "destinations" that you no longer want cluttering up the list? I have found that, when using the "voice" feature to speak a new destination (which, amazingly enough, does work with the 2.1 version) it often generates several choices from which to choose. As I am still getting used to the concept of a touch screen, I have sometimes inadvertantly selected the wrong destination, and it remains on the "list" even after I select the correct one. In some areas of the software, simply holding your finger on an item in a list will bring up a set of prompts that includes a delete funtion. But this does not work on the GPS destinations list. Any hints?

We use a similar IPhone application to set the tension of the belts on our little engine. Hold the IPhone near the belt and hit the belt with something or twang it and look at the read out.

Time to bring this thread back to life, Dave. I bought three more Samsung Captivate phones for my wife and two sons for Christmas, bringing the family total to four. I also finally broke down and bought a new laptop for myself, to replace the now seven year old one I'm currently using (have yet to unbox the new one, as have been busy assisting my tribe in setting up their new phones---though my younger son has already configured his to control the space station, in the span of two days :book: )

Anyway, the new laptop has all the bells and whistles, except that it lacks built in "bluetooth," which I'm used to using when sending phone pics to my computer, for potential uploading later (such as to this forum). As you probably know, the Captivate has "wi fi," and readily connects to any router. What I want to know is how can I use wi fi (in lieu of bluetooth) to send pics directly to the computer in the same manner? I know that I can send them as an email attachment, but that seems less efficient to me. I also would rather not have to deal with a physical (usb cable, or whatever) connection. I would guess that someone makes a usb bluetooth plug in receiver ["dongle"], but have yet to research that. Basically, I would like to be able to simply send the pics via straight wi fi from phone to computer. Anyone done this?

It's much simpler sending it with an email, bluetooth is awful and flawed technology. Your phone will have a 'share' option in the gallery menu, in this will be 'email' so just click that and enter your email address. Once you've sent a couple, you'll only need to press the first couple of letters and it will auto fill your email address, the whole thing takes under 10 seconds. Other than that, plug in your USB cable which came with the phone and transfer them that way.

Thanks for the input, Roger and Bibs. Though some may consider bluetooth to be somewhat "Soviet" by nature, I've had no difficulties using it for the swift sending of phone pics to my [old] computer, and it seems to be the medium of choice for phone headsets. Anyway, I've recently seen an ad for a usb bluetooth receiver similar to the one Roger has pictured above, but even smaller, and designed to be left (if one desires) in the port indefinitely. It's very inexpensive, so I think I'll give it a shot. Meanwhile I'm enjoying setting up and tweaking the new laptop, getting used to its much larger screen, and particularly happy with its much better processor and 6 gigs of ram speeding things up quite noticeably.:)

Is it using 64 bit architecture? 32 bit only recognises up to 4gb I believe.
