SJ Sportscars lists some waist trim and fittings, although it does say something about "early type". Not cheap either.

I'll be interested in how you get on, since this is one of the next jobs on my list.

Does anyone know the history of the different waist trims?

I've got a '79 Elite in brown - I seem to remember El Torro having something very similar, and rather lovely. The photos of the brown S1 cars seem to show a 'chrome' type highlight a moulded strip.

Do all Series One Elites have the same waist trim?

SJ's quote "early flat-type' trim. What is this?

I think Eclat S1 had more of a tape than a moulded strip?

Who used the rubber ones El Torro mentions?

Any info gratefully received.

El Torro - yes I though those pics you put up had most of it intact. I remember being envious at the time. I have none, so it is definitely 'ouch'.

Can you give us any info on the chrome one you've found?

PS It passed it's MOT today!

PPS only took about 20 hours of electrical fiddling.

The Ebay one does look interesting.2 rolls would be needed I suppose. Its infuriating as mine is complete but has a couple of sections that are too short and don't reach the end covers.I thought about maybe hanging them from the garage roof, giving them a good warm up with a hot air gun and swinging on them to make them stretch a tad when they come off for the respray!BTW are the end caps available from anywhere?Am missing 2.

TIA

Mick, El Torro

How wide is your original chrome stripe?

I have just measured up the waist bulge on my car, and 12mm stripe (from eBay above) looks like it might be about a 1mm too wide for the bulge, while 9mm is probably too narrow.

  • 7 months later...

I'm still on the trial of a nice chrome edged side strip for my Elite.

I found this today: http://www.rubbertrim.co.uk/body_mouldings.htm

See the item:

"Guardrail H7150

Double chrome trim supplied in 8 metre retail packs or 25 metre trade rolls"

It's 15mm wide.

That sounds so close I think I'll take a punt on it...
