Lotus readies next Esprit

Recommended Posts

Again I'll stand up as being the one person who thought the M250 looked awful  who was talking about a bloated Elise? If the new Esprit looks anything like the M250 I'll be glad to end the Esprit legacy with the last V8 special editions. Great cars :)

It looks nothing like the Elise or M250

I am 99% sure that when the world sees it they will be happy with the final design results

Your absolutely sure that the there isn't just a hint of M250 in it ?? let's say, around the rear end maybe ???

(neuron + question = devils advocate!!)

Only happy? :)

After all this, I want to fall down on my knees and sob with joy when I see it

It had better be a stunning beauty or else!

I'd love for Lotus to simply 'evolve' the Esprit shape as they did from G to S bodies... perhaps bringing the bumpers into the rest of the body, as is the modern fashion, but keeping the overall wedge.

The Porsche 911 is a great example of a shape that's nicely evolved over time while staying true to its heritage. Most manufacturers 'reinvent' their cars every few years, leaving little if anything from generation to generation. An 80's Camaro, for example, has little in common, style-wise, with its 60s counterpart and a Mitsubishi Eclipse could mean one of several body styles, similar only in their frond drive and forgettable styling.

The original Giugiaro car had some great "Tight "design and surfacing.

The Stevens was bloated with some questionable detailing that is not wearing too well IMO :)

I have not been too keen on any of Lotus designs work that I have seen to date. :(

Its all so overly fussy , cramming in everything and the kitchen sink. :P

Hope they make me a believer with the new car :)

Not in my opinion.

The m250 look nowhere near as aggressive from the rear end as the new Esprit.

I have written my letter of intent yesterday for the new Esprit... <_<

I would not have done so if it looked anything like the mock-ups of the 'fat Elise' or the 'Lambo' impression.

Thanks to Martyn etc., I'm almost ready to stop worrying about the new Esprit being ugly.

oh, it's not ugly !!! That's for sure. I just fear that it lacks a little idividuality for my own personal tastes.

So its in the current Pinninfarina/ Ferrari- Audi/Lamborghini mould? <_<

Insdividuality never hurt a sportscar design.

Funny, but I have this vision of the selection process now:

Martyn: The Claw!

Julian: The Claw is our Master

Martyn: It decides who will go and who will stay

And look, here's a photo of them waiting to be picked:
