Fuel tank foam/sponge.

Recommended Posts

Vanya, mine re actually the opposite ( pics somwhere on my blog)...

Tops were almost perfect, And even the bottoms didn't look too bad, but a little fuel poured in showed two spots of leaked through the rusted areas.

Got a replacement for £50 from Lotus bits

Barry, sorry to say it but it's impossible to visually check in situ, and a right pita for removal, though I think someone's done it with the lump in by undong the engine/ box mounts and tilting it.

All cars are affected. My garage-queen V8 which has never seen a drop of rain had its tanks switched out in 2012 due to rust. It was minor, but enough to eat through the tank in spots. :(

I got lucky with my Turbo SE - turns out someone had already put alloy ones in. I was very happy that day.

Hence I also went for fitting a pair of alloy tanks when I took the engine and box out. Expensive, but definitely worth it in the long run, in my opinion.

Margate Exotics.
