Few people wanted to hear the Exhaust...

Larinii twin exit fully stainless.

Had alot of problems with the original brackets fitting the exhaust to the car, plus the bolts from the cat to the pipe and the EBPV spacer.

I think it's abouty gas tight not although the right side is leaking water from the join still...spent ALL day on it yesteray to try and get it to sit evenly and correctly - when the car goes in for it's next stage of work I'll remove the system and make new / better / easier to adjust brackets for it.

Also might look at making the union between the cat and the pipe a lot easier with some flexible stuff and a bit of wlding (it really is that hard to do).

Main issue now is the bolts that go onto the cat, there is not enough thread showing to get a full nut on it becuase of the taper on the cat canister....immensly bad design but you have to do the best you can.

Also keep getting a code 24 engine warning...something about speed sensors when I rev - any clues ?

----------

(PS I know it sounds rough on start, 3rd party starter motor I'm affraid. PLUS the rear aerofoil isn't mounted yet becuase I keep having to tinker with the exhaust).

Always done it - V8 always did it too, high or low battery, I keep the Esprit on trickle so I know it's fairly topped up only went for a long drive the other day too - just one of them things.

Decided to modify the cat and the brackets when I have time, the space thing is a joke and really makes life hard....all it needs is aboother 2" on the post cat pipe and you can get longer bolts and an easier joint on it.

If you get one get them to make a stainless flange too (like mine).

I rate it personally - just that fitting it was a nightmare, mainly down to the poor brackets on the car originally not Larini I might add.

Hehe - whats farting ?

It sounds exactly like my V8 used to, certainly not as smooth as it stutters to pick up (needs an A service to be fair) here and there but very nice.

Now the all important question, the rear aerofoil that sits between the pipes....keep it black or paint it red ? Can't decide....

Sounds good Jon. B) A whole lot better than the the stock setup.

Im itching to get mine replaced ready for summer.

I hope you dont have a problem with the vehicle speed sensor as its a B*tch to remove. Fingers crossed the gremlin will iron itself out.

Hehe Carl - it's probably Jono Induced as I fitted the new one (remember the old hub carrier broke ?).

Took her out for a burn in the p-ssin rain today and no engine lights (and I took it past 6K), only comes on when I rev it in neutral...LEW freescan manual says what causes it but not why...Dermot help !!!

Look at tall the moisture in the exhasut gas as well...amazing how damp it is outside.

Dasar - Nice point about the aerofoil, I like black myself...cheaper than Red

Matches the front lip too...we'll see, might fit it tomorrow.

Hi Jonathon

Have you had your car on a run yet? is the noise bareable? Your exhaust looks similar to mine and I'm worried about the noise level on the motorway being a bit much for 5 or 6 hour drives...

What's your thoughts?

Yes I have done about 200 miles in a few trips since I got it back.

It's exactly like the V8 I used to own...it's loud but not un-comfortably load by any means which is just how I wanted it. Some people's exhausts are quite embarrasing, this one has at least some descression.

Sounds awesome through the Dartford tunnel...you can't resist powering up and then letting it gurgle down to idle

(probably doing the engine no end of harm hehe)

The movie is about 4,500 revs....I tied to run it to 3,000 ut the car seems to run away at that point (turbo creeping in...shouldn't be as the throttle is only a small way down)...all of the sudden the rev shoot up - freescan shows no faults in the throttle position but possibly has something to do with code 24.

Drives like new though so I can't complain.

If you haven't done it do the RAM air mod too (see LEW) you get clear audable warning when the turbo is about to kick in (about a second before noticable power) certainly helps when cornering and you hear the sucking noise and thats your signal to be careful as power / turbo is on the way.

Hi Jonathan

Thanks for that!! My car was originally a carb turbo so no intake silencing, just straight from the window to the turbo...yipee!!!

Can't wait to get on the rod now!

Sounds great! I decided to leave the rear airfoil off after I installed my exhaust. I like the nice stainless being visible..

Hi John, I went to visit your web site to see your new set of Esprit wheels -- it is so nice. Just wonder what is the (wheel) offset for your front and rear wheels -- from the lotus tech spec the stock front wheel offset is +23.3 and the rear one is +30.

Hi there,

I haven't got the V8 wheels fitted par say mainly becuase my car had to have a MOT test (annual UK road test) and the front tyres would not have passed this so i have the originals on for the time being.

I've noticed a few problems when I have had the V8 wheels on, one of my concerns was the wheel off set (distance between the rim centreline and the hub face).

It's something I am going to look at when I next have the suspension appart when I get the new Lotus dampers so the geometry can all be totally checked. For the time being I am running standard GT3 / S4 wheels.

If you're interested I can try and calculate them if you like, the fronts being 8.5" wide and the rears being 10" - I can just run a straight edge over the rim and a rule down to the hub face, should give a rough idea.
