We know they will drive beautifully...they look gorgeous and I believe with the advisory team on board, the build quality will have to be superb as there are some important reputations on the line.

We done Lotus.

Technical error, try again! It wasn't moved by anyone on purpose but may be been involved in a small glitch we encountered recently.

Does it bother anyone else that there are now exactly zero Brits on the Lotus board of directors (per the "Inside" page on the New Era site)? I understand bringing in Germans from Porsche to head up the quality and production departments, but they couldn't even throw in a British PR person? And I have to question whether a lifetime AMG guy is really on board with Lotus vehicle engineering's core values.

In the world of international business your nationality makes no difference these days, its all about if you are good enough for for the job . Patriotism doesnt necessarily make you money.

I didn't bring it up for reasons of patriotism (I'm not British either, although I did go to university and work in England for several years). It's all about the brand, and I question whether a bunch of Germans, or more to the point, lifetime Porsche, Ferrari, & AMG people really understand what Lotus is supposed to be. They have been brought up in a completely different corporate culture, where (for one example), throwing power and technology at a problem is seen as the best way to solve it. British engineering tends to prefer elegant, simple solutions. (Or when that doesn't work, bodging things together and hoping for the best!)

I know, I know, they need to make money, etc, and apparently Porsche, BMW, and Ferrari are the only car companies left who know how to do that. But the culture behind the name really does matter.

Very interesting question Superbad.

Would any of of Brits have cared that Cappelo was not English if we had won the World Cup?... I very much doubt it. All that really matters is the end result and perhaps how we played to acheive it.

I know when I am out driving my Lotus enjoying its superb handling characteristics, the last thing on my mind is the nationality of the members on the Board of Directors.

If Dany Bahar and the international management team he has put together can produce these beautiful cars and ensure they at least feel and drive very similar to the elise/evora, then I will be very happy (especially if I can afford one!).

As for the Lotus "brand"...I do hope that Norfolk is still the manufacturing base as this for me is what keeps the brand "British" in my opinion, but unfortunately globalisation tends to move the manufacturing base to the cheapest alternative.

I am very excited to read such a group of experienced international "car" people have come together to raise Lotus to a new level and I truly believe they will insist on a level of build quality not yet witnessed in a Lotus.

I truly believe the Brand is now in safe hands (there are some serious reputations on the line here) and admire the vision and balls of Dany Bahar and Proton.

I do fear that the list of options for each model could go the Porsche route and add substantial cost to each model.

As for weight, if the steering feels like an Evora, the balance like an Elise and they accelerate as quickly as the estimated times quoted...so what?

On the subject of British companies being owned by other countries....if that is essential to retain/improve the brand, then I am all for it.

Hats off to Dany Bahar and Proton...we are trusting you with our favourite British brand and hope you won't let us down...and in my opinion you have made a great start with the beautiful designs.
