rogerch
OK, all the kit's arrived, so now I'm just checking my thoughts on where to mount the camera. My current thoughts are in the valance mesh down on the right, reason being the mesh cost $22.00, so no biggie if it gets stuffed. The better location would be up on the far right of the numberplate mount/surround, on the raised bit, sadly it's too deep to get away without boring a hole in the boot wall as well. Next is rear light reflector, I could bore a hole and mount it in there, but I'm reticent to do that, why stuff with something that is water proof. Any input ? gixxer
Oooooh! A glassback. Can't see out of those can you? Specially if the sun is shining and you have a sunroof. Don't ask me how I know Assuming it's small, I'd put it up high, alongside the license plate and just below the lower edge of the transom. Good mod idea! GordonMasson
Drill a hole in your number plate and mount it there... if it doesnt work then you can buy a new number plate and you are back to where you started withouth having to repair holes etc. Quote I've had a perfectly wonderful evening, but this wasn't it. rogerch
It's too deep, even if I go into the raised top side of the plate surround, I still have to drill the boot wall. I like the fake exhaust idea, but it's a lot of work. I have my doubts I can cut a sufficiently conforming round hole in the mesh, so top corer of the number plate mount is starting to look good. Choppa
I don't think it would last 5 minutes mounted low down level with the exhaust and I would guess the view from down there would not help that much when you start reversing. If I were fitting it I'd put it under the number plate as Karl suggests unless it won't fit in the space available, in which case I'd suggest fitting it to the right of the plate. cjtpb13
No one has suggested the rear wing yet? Best place to allow viewing of everything....oops...no wing...lol... Seriously Roger, I have mine built into my tag frame. I have learned I need to remove and take apart the frame and make it so it is on the lower part of the tag. Due to the nature of the camera lense when it is mounted at the top of the tag the body work above cuts off the camera view. So on the monitor you have what appears like looking through half closed eyelids. To drill through the mesh with no mess, Clamp tightly two blocks of wood( can be secured together with screws clamps bolts etc ), one on each side of the mesh ( mesh sandwiched between ) and then drill your hole through the blocks..if you clamped it correctly you should now have an undamaged piece of mesh with a hole. martynv
Mine is mounted underneath the rear bumper in the middle. It's mounted on a black plastic cable tie base screwed to the underside of the bumper with a stainless steel self tapper and secured with two black cable ties. To date it's been fine and the view is quite good it's also fairly easy to route the cable along the underside of the boot and up into the car. rogerch
Taking Christopher's advice, I used an off cut first. (only re-did the mesh when it was painted early this year) Cut a thin piece of MDF to suite. Cut a perfect hole with provided hole saw. Hey presto, one mounted camera. Thanks Chris, I probably wouldn't have attempted it without your advice. Hope you're proud of me, cause I am. Great Forum !
