Those of us who have lived through years of derision, punctuated by occasional spurts of triumph (e.g Botham...unforgettable) are being cheered up daily by the exploits in the Antipodes. Seems we have people who can BAT...and people who can BOWL, too! Magnificent stuff.

What's up with all this stuff about crickets and ashes? Did someone leave them in the oven for too long?:sofa:

Just kidding. Congratulations, England!

One does wonder, reflecting on the origins of "transportation" as an alternative punishment to "execution"...which was very popular at the time, children being hanged for stealing a loaf of bread...one wonders if the people who thought it up had any idea what a raging success it would prove to be. Shipping all the undesireables half way around the world has given rise to a vibrant and confident nation with a deep rooted ethic of "fairness". Perhaps the idea of the legal professions adoption of "transportation" was to set up a suitable sporting adversary?!! In any event, the recurring sporting contests between Australia and England seem to draw the population of both countries into good natured partisan support. Roll on the next Test!!!

Took my daughter to the cricket at the Adelaide oval last Friday. Great day out. Lovely weather (36 Deg C), Packed ground, Great surroundings, Nice grassed areas to lie on, and only Au$30 a ticket. Just a pity only one side turned up to play that day. <_<

Wonderful pictures from down under, thanks for making me smile at least.....just wait until next summer when we get the heat, the cricket, the warm beer and we will have forgotten all about this cold foggy damp stuff....

Though this be madness yet there is method in it ( Polonius in William Shakespeare's Hamlet)
