Robert Kubica has been 'seriously injured' in a rally accident according to reports from Italy.

The Renault driver had been competing in the Ronde di Andora rally, with reports suggesting he overturned his rally car, a Skoda Fabia on the way to a stage.

Early reports claim he has suffered several fractures, quite possibly broken legs which would most certainly rule him our for much of the early 2011 season - these are yet to be confirmed.

The Renault team has however confirmed the Pole is conscious after being rushed to Hospital by helicopter. His co-driver, Jacub Gerber is reported to be unhurt.

Thats really disappointing news.

ey ho, we can see if Sennas is real deal and not a journeyman living off a famous name sake.

As for Grosjean? Who?

He had his chance and did bugger all. It would be a travesty if the seat went to that lack of talent.

It's crazy to allow a driver to risk themselves, let alone when the guy's such an asset to the team. I hope he's ok, but I fear this will put him out of contention for a few races and leave him trying to play himself into the new cars/regs when the rest of the field are well on their way. As for a replacement... anyone got Kimi's number?

Liuzzi is one of the best drivers floating about IMHO. Cannot see Petrov or Senna or Grosjean being able to set a car up on their own

ventilating him like that looks a bit more serious than a hurty leg / wrist

Senna is the contracted and nominated reserve driver. Mind you, what about Hulkenberg? He has shown signs of promise.

Anyone see TF or Gascoyne near his car prior to the start? :innocent:

I hope that he recovers quickly. Theres not a better driver around at present IMHO. The finishes he had last year by far exceeded what was a mediocre car.

From Autosport...

Robert Kubica looks set to miss the start of the new Formula 1 season after suffering multiple fractures to his right arm, leg and hand in a crash on the Ronde di Andora rally on Sunday. The Polish driver was airlifted to hospital on Sunday morning following a high-speed crash that took place 4.6 kilometres into the opening stage of the event, on a stage near the village of Testico in Italy.

Kubica is understood to have swiped a wall and hit a crash barrier in a Super 2000 Skoda Fabia on the first stage of the rally - which he was competing in shortly after completing the first week of pre-season F1 testing with Renault at Valencia.

According to sources at the event, Kubica was trapped in the car for more than one hour until specialist extraction equipment could get to the scene of the crash.

There are unconfirmed reports that Kubica's injuries were caused by the end of a crash barrier penetrating the footwell of the car - which would explain why his injuries were on his right hand side rather than by the door.

According to a statement issued by Kubica's Renault team, he has been diagnosed with multiple fractures to his right arm, leg and hand.

After being transferred to the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure, Kubica underwent surgery on Sunday afternoon for the injuries he suffered - with doctors believed to be focusing their efforts on his injured hand and, in particular, its blood supply.

An update from the hospital in the afternoon said that the operation on Kubica would continue until Sunday evening. And although amputation of the hand had been ruled out, it was too early to give a prognosis on how well the hand would recover from the injuries it suffered.

It was also confirmed that Kubica was out of immediate danger, and there was no threat to his life. His co-driver Jakub Gerber was not hurt.

Kubica's injuries look almost certain to prevent him starting the season for Renault, with the first race of the campaign due to take place in Bahrain on March 13.

Renault will likely call on reserve driver Bruno Senna to fill in in the short term, but the team could opt for a more experienced driver if Kubica faces a more lengthy lay-off.

Real shame. I wouldn't rate him as the best driver out there, but I do think he's done a fantastic job wih underperformimg cars in the past.

Would have been great for 2011 if he was able to duplicate results from Valencia testing.

Hope he's not injured too badly so that he can't get back to being competetive soon.

Hooligan at heart.
