New Car for Kimbers

Another vote for the Maserati, thought about that myself. Otherwise Jaguar XKR springs to mind, although they do shed their value a bit.

A colleague had an RS4 avant and my god it was fast.

Oh, and seen enough bad driving just in the last month to say that there are plenty of cocks still in their BMW's

I can vouch for the Scooby.

Had one on test about 6 months and it was just amazing.

I couldn't quite gel with the styling so didn't buy one in the end.

Fantastic power and roadholding. Certainly equal to the Esprit :getmecoat:

A little bit older model, but still a quick car, and suitable for winter as it basically a rally car. Also within the price range with some spare cash for tuning.

I own one and I'm no chav  Haa Haa. Didn't know a Chav was able to afford a Skooby? The only nice cars Chav's drive are nicked ones.

Did you know CHAV means Council Housed And Vauxhall's.

How about a used BMW E46 3-Series with AWD? Not as fast off the line as the ones you're looking at, but tight and indestructible. Mine's a 2004 and I've put a hard 110K miles+ on it and it's still built like a tank and gets me out of and through snow when front-wheelers are sucking wind. Dunno what they call the UK equivalent, but this is a 330xi.

Kimbers, my dear chap .............. one just doesn't............

..... but if one does, at least a gentleman would let fellow members in on the scheme! Six months use and a 20% profit! Do you need an apprentice by any chance ...... I can do Estuary.....

The scheme is Mr Davies that I do it for a living and I have lots of dealers who I buy hundreds of cars off! Just found one today with a jaw dropping car and have just e-mailed my contact there. Just ordered 20 cars off her so should be accomodating!

Ian, professional pride wouldn't allow me to put profit aside!

I'll post it up if they drop the price enough!

I never said you were Dave. The comment was directed to Kimbers. You can pick both up for silly money anyway, they are well affordable. Did you know CHAV actually is an acronymn of Council housed and violent or associated vermin. Dont ever recall vauxhall ?

Bid made through one of my Dealer partners who just happened to have the perfect car for me. Dunno if they will accept it, they had a huge margin in it and I wanted it virtually at what they paid for it! But these do hold their value very well! RB320

The RB320 only comes in that colour mate. Limited run on the death of Richard Burns.

So far had my offer declined. First rule in buying to make a profit, don't let emotion get in the way. Moving on to a distressed sale of a WR1!

The picture is of an older B5 RS4 twin turbo V6 and whilst nice I much prefer the new B7 V8... So much so theres a lurvely saloon sitting in the garage right now :)

The V8 is just divine and whilst (like any super saloon) it has things to watch out for the noise is bang on (engine pretty much unchanged when they put it in the R8)

I like the understated nature too :)

I had a VXR8 and bang for bucks they are unbeatable. I mean, brand new you could get them for 27k and 35k would get you a 6.3 supercharged monster.

The engine is really lazy and bullet proof and with long gearing (ironically, the same as the evora... it is a diesel box after all) but with 400 lb/ft at under 2k revs available it was very wasy to drive on the motorway for long distance.

Handling was hysterical (but fun) though - complete sledgehammer and no delicacy at all. There are 600-700 bhp ones around and you could get that for under 10k.

Heavy b'stard though

So.......

Look.....

Its winter...and not a nice one! I miss speed badly! Even more I miss acceleration badly. Being an old Fart I wondered what to buy..... I mean, I wouldn't use a Lotus much this time of year...brrr and it might get dirty!

So I did some serious research and have narrowed it down to 2 cars!

Before you look below, heres my criteria!

1. 0-60 Sub 4.5

2. AWD

3. Must ooze Manliness!...I want something that shouts BWAAAAAAA LOOK AT ME!

4. Must be a drivers car and handle like or as near as dammit to, a Lotus

5. I don't want to spend a fortune, circa £10-15k max!

6. I will be selling it come summer so needs to be a company I can do a deal with. I buy from both of these so have some clout to get them at cost.

So heres what I came up with. I could really do with your thoughts on which one to go for!

Mitsi, MR 340-360! (360 is 0-60 in 3.8, 340 is 4.2)

evo9360.jpg

Ok, done the idea's bit now ..... still think you are on the money with the original metal.

Oh, did I say these things handle - chucked a thing or two round in me time but the Mitsi startled me!!

(and, on an airfield once - heading back from London with 4 large bods and luggage we topped 150 and still pulling - until we ran out of runway of course - amazing engine)!

I have to ask myself - 'do I feel lucky'?

I had an early Impreza - an import STi4 - which I bought new. Memories of it are fond, both on and off track. It was expensive to run as parts were different from the UK cars. The only changes I made were suspension settings to those recommended by Prodrive and a set of PIAA driving lights instead of the STi blank plates. The early STi cars were both light (1250kg or there abouts) and powerful. They were also pretty discrete.

I've bought all my cars new for the last X years, working a buy-new-and-hold-a-long-time approach so am not the best to comment on buying one now. My concern if I was buying an impreza would be whether it had been cared for. They are cheapish to buy and expensive to run. I'd also look for one which was as original as possible - I know far too many people who've made changes and ended up with an expensive set of problems.

I've owned Subaru's for 40% of my driving life and have yet to have anything go wrong on them (touch wood). I would consider getting another impreza but it would probably have to be a pre-2000 in mint, original condition. I had decent wheel-time in a 22B which was a fantastic looking car (up there with a Lancia EVO IMHO) but probably not better than my STi of the similar age. Shape alone would get it into the garage.

They handle very differently than a Lotus. Driving a AWD quickly requires a different technique. Better? Worse? - No, just different.
