New wheels

Recommended Posts

Finally got my Work Meister wheels in yesterday. Work machined the front hubs incorrectly though. They bored them to 60mm but they didn't bore them all the way thru so I used a rotary file to remove the additional material for a very SNUG fit. I promised I'd post pictures to a couple of you guys so you could get an idea of what I got. These are a completely custom fit made to my order and I got them from Work brand new for $3500usd.

Nice.  How wide?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

18X7.5 fronts w/225/40/18 (little too much tire, should've done 205)

18x9.5 rears w/265/35/18

Just curious... Do the 18" wheels make it more or less difficult to turn the steering wheel at slow speeds in parking lots and such?

Thanks,

Pete

I haven't noticed any discernable difference to be honest. I did have to raise the front of the car up(AVO adj. shocks) since I was having some clearance issues with the front bumper rubbing in the fender well.

Wide rears! :D

very nice looking car.

Am also liking the tints you have there too, have always

wanted blacked out windows but UK law has really limited

the tint you can have now. am still going to get it done though

as it would have saved my face getting cut when the door glass

smashed on it.

Thanks Paul, I am actually looking in to retinting the windows in a newer less black tint. My Mercedes has it and it's more mirror like, the rear 1/4 windows on the esprit are starting to bubble so I'll do those first to see how it looks.

Hello,

Are you now going to run these tyres on 2 bar (S4 and later, bigger tyre) pressure or on 1.8 bar (SE spec.)?

See http://www.lotusespritworld.co.uk/EGuides/...rePressure.html

Is the pressure depending on the car or the tyre?

This must be one of most stupid questions ever.

Best regards,

Peter

I haven't even checked the pressure yet, they're probably at 44psi, that's what most places fill aftermarket tires/wheels to. I do plan on checking them and running 29psi as recommended by the 18" V8 specs. I think 1.8 bar would be too little with such low profile tires and nice light aluminum rims.

im a newbie here but I must say those wheel look incredible, may I ask what the demesions are, as in regards to the offsets?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I believe the fronts are a +19mm offset and the rears are +30mm offset. It said on the box what they are but I was too excited to get them on the car that I didn't pay that much attention. I just had my dealer call in some measurements from the hubs and brakes to Work and they made the wheels to those specs.

Those wheels really looks excellent on a white car  :) It's just perfect!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Thanks guys for all the compliments. I've always had a thing for wheels on my cars. I spend more money than I want but they make such a visual impact IMHO!

Keep the comments coming, I like the feedback.

you should probably go with the v8 recommended pressures, though

they may be a tad too high since your car doesn't weigh as much.

try it and see how they wear.

in general, wider tires/ low profile have a larger contact patch

and distribute the weight over a larger area, not to mention

a stiffer side wall, so require lower psi

strangely, tire shops that should be the experts often fill new tires to the

sidewall max pressure!  this is simply the pressure the tire manufacturer

states is the max safe working pressure.  :)

the same tire may be used on many different cars.

the automobile manufacturers calculate the proper inflation pressure

by the weight of the car, the weight distribution and the

contact patch area, as well as the desired handling characteristics.

so the same tire size will have different recommended inflation

pressures for each different car

but i'm probably just saying what everybody already knows

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yes, this was my intention, I hadn't had a chance to change anything as I was in such a hurry to get the wheels fitted and on the car. I will deflate them to the 29psi settings and adjust accordingly. Thanks for the synopsis, never put much thought into where the manufacturers came up with their recommendations. Makes sense.
