After hours of research I have cracked it.

Stevens cars without ABS :-

Master Cylinder = VW Transporter T2 Van

Servo = Renault Extra Van

Brake fluid Reservoir = Ford Transit circa 1988

Hope this info is of help to people.

Cheers Mike

It maybe used on both VW and Ford up to 1979 but its not the cylinder used on Stevens Esprits.

The Transporter T2 cylinder which came after 1979 is different. It is actually still produced new by a company called BRAX. I have one complete with product code.Use the link below to see a VW cylinder on ebay.

INteresting... Bendix didn't list any VW Transporter after 79.

That one does look like a better match.

Small world, they are 2 mins walk from my home. As a seal kit works out inc p andp to £27 I think i will buy a new cylinder and not even bother stripping down the old one.

I decided to buy one of the T25 ones this morning. Ive crawled all over it and the only dimention I can see thats different is the point in the piston that the rod from the servo presses on is 5mm different from the bendix cylinder. However as the rod from the pedal to servo is adjustable I imagine that it will do fine.

Did you buy this from B&B components?

I am not sure about the after market parts supplier they use, but I do know the Brax VW T2 unit fits straight onto the Esprit no problem.

Cheers Mike

There is a difference, the B and B one has 4 outlets. The extra one is on the rear nearest the servo. The middle pic l/h bottom yellow plug is the extra one. On the bendix the casting is there but not drilled. Any ideas? Shame if its not useable as £36 for that or £97 for a Lotus specialist one.

Mine is an 88 but it works fine so maybe a check of parts nos will tell if they are the same cylinder. However the entire system disc to master cylinder inc pads,calipers all pipes is all new.

Just to keep this updated, I just had to put a new master cylinder on my '89 Esprit. Thanks to all who contributed here, I found this to be  a perfect replacement aside from one extra outlet that needed plugged.
