Cool Lotus Related Memorabilia - Let's see yours!

Recommended Posts

Here's my favorite piece of Lotus memorabilia:  S1 owners manual.  Happy to have had the privilege to meet these people whom I admire so much!

Can you identify three of these please? The one above the e, the one above the t, and the "circled" one at the top.

In the garage no-one can hear you scream

Above the e is Brian Angus, above the t is Brian Spooner and the "circled" one is Oliver Winterbottom.

My fav Lotus (related?) pic, taken at Hethel, 1980; 2 De Lorean prototypes and I believe a Lotus Talbot Sunbeam in the background. Shortly after taking this photograph I was chased away by a man with a stick.

Haha Sean. That's not a Lotus Sunbeam it's just a plain Talbot Sunbeam. My mom had one identical to that and that may very well be it (The old man was never fussy in what he drove). Infact, if that is round the back near the offices then that is definitely ours.

If it wasn't it may be one of a batch of development cars so you could be looking at an early prototype.

I recall the old man telling me a story when they went to collect some Esprit's from the factory, when they took the franchise on, they were speaking to the development guys about the DeLorean prototypes, and the huge job they had of making a silk purse out of a sows ear. They all agreed, at the time, they were a good looking car, but drove and went like absolute dogs!

Nice to see these pics come to light, anymore kicking about?

Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere.

So, what is the complete list of signatures?

The rest of them are Giugiaro (below Lotus, he wrote my name), above 'pr' is Roger Becker, above 'Owners' is Nick Fulcher, above 'Handbook' is Colin Spooner, and Kimbers' dad at the bottom.

Around about the time of the photo (1980) I was fortunate enough to be taken for a lap around the track at Hethel - I think it was in an Elite. Upon exiting one high speed corner, the driver said "If I'd done that in a DeLorean, I'd have turned the [expletive deleted] thing over"!

Ahh well, all this time I'd just assumed it was a Lotus Sunbeam! Actually the thought that it may have been the CEO's car (or whatever Mike may have been at the time - Financial Controller??) for me makes it a more interesting photo!

It was my moms car but he got 2 (one for him one for mom). He was MD of Lotus cars at the time. The Group and Cars were separate at the time. I think he'd just been promoted from Technical Director.

I managed to get this signed in 1965 when Lotus hired the village hall in Cheshunt prior to the move to Norfolk. I saw Mr Chapman standing outside with a pile of books, I asked for his autograph, he asked my name I replied Parramint, Sir. He smiled and asked my first name......I was 12 years old and the passion is still the same.
This time, with the picture....I hope!

I went to the official plaque laying ceremony at Hethel in 1966, Jimmy was there with Mr Chapman. I plunked up courage to ask Jimmy for his autograph, he seemed more nervous than me.

post-1-0-98197900-1371635355.jpgThe Ronnie autograph I managed to get at Snetterton when he was testing. Had to follow him into a bush while he took a pee.....they made you work hard for an autograph in those days. The Jochen autograph I got from a friend at Team Lotus.

Hi Tony
You have some wonderful stuff. Hope your Dad is getting along OK, I was speaking about him while in Malaysia in January to a Proton shareholder who spoke very highly of your Dad.

Almost in the spirit of this thread...

I've been meaning to do this for a while. The seat is from an abandoned project of a couple of years ago and has been sitting in the garage ever since. It's either an Elise/Exige Motorsport seat or from a whizzy version of the VX220 (not too sure and not too bothered!). So anyway, remove the runners and add the gubbins from a generic office swivel chair and presto! :D

Hi everyone

I've had considerable interest in this photo from our DeLorean fancying cousins. Apparently the green car is a hitherto unknown animal.

I have been asked by the authors of an upcoming book on DeLorean whether anyone on this forum might have any more DeLorean pics from the Lotus/Hethel era. If you have something you wish to contribute please let me know and I will put you in touch with the authors.

Best regards

Sean
