S2 Cam Carrier pulley alignment

Right, cams back on but I'm not sure about the alignment. The book talks about dots but on my pulleys the inlet has an IN and EX raised and a raised dot inline with the IN on the opposite side of the pulley. On the exhaust cam just the raised IN and EX. Is it simply a case of getting the IN on the inlet pulley lined up with the EX on the exhaust pulley?

Sorry if I'm being daft but don't want to screw this up.

I would invest in the service notes. They are worth every penny if you intend to do your own maintainance. Trying to time the camshafts without the correct details could cost you an engine rebuild if you get it wrong. The moment that starter spins, if it's out, you will bend valves and if it does fire, you could do untold damage. The notes are only about

Thanks guys,

I have the notes but no coloured dots. And what does MOP mean, can't find reference to that (or is it on the tech section?). What should my MOP be?

Cheers,

Pete

Peter,

MOP is Maximiun opening point. It is usually measured with a degree wheel on the cam pully and a gauge on the valve bucket. It is only usually used to set the valve timing very accurately in conjunction with adjustable vernier pulley wheels.

Setting the timing using the dimples in the wheels is fine for a road car.

You must have the dimples on the cam wheels, they all have them. The colour coding is for different wheels and timing so as long as your using the original wheels, you can ignore the colour coding. Post an image of the wheels and maybe we can point out the dimples. I only have the notes for the Stephens cars but they show the N/A as two 104 degree wheels marked with Green dots. You should find the table for your engine under Technical Data.
