V8 Oil Pressure drop

Recommended Posts

Hi all

This is my first post & i think its bad news.

My V8's oil pressure started to drop into the red at idle in traffic today.

It seems fine & reads normally while rolling along & air is running through the oil coolers.

Just backed into the garage & it fell back into the red, only this time the oil warning light started flickering, i switched off at once & now i'm shitting a brick!

The engine has been out & re-built with every oil seal replaced after it blew a few following a rad failure & overheating.

But i have done at least a thousand miles since & the car has been perfect & despite the pressure drop was driving just fine............Any ideas would be helpfull

Thanks in advance

If fuel [in contact with a failure in injection system] flows into the engine oil it is possible that the "viscosity"[ i dont know if this is the right english word?] canges. That means the pressure rate at idle speed is canged. The other thing is it is possible that the oil level is incorect, that means the crankshaft and rods can take air into the oil, the effect is also a cange in oil caracteristics [a gas mixture is compressible...!]

If i undertant your question in the right way, it sounds like a problem of mine in the past--> i hat filled in to much oil after an oil cange, the effect was a low oilpressure at high temperature and idle speed on a waiting period in a slow traffic situation...

how are you seeing a drop in pressure within the oil system, or are you refering to the drop being indicated by the oil light?

if by the light check the low level sensor on the right hand side of the sump i think thats where it is.

might not actually be low oil problem, assuming you have no leaks. could be a short!!

if memory serves me right oil contents should be total system 6 ltrs aprox if you have just had a oil change did they flush the sytem through restricted return might be able to trigger a low oil light

Hi

The hand book says that the pressure should rest at 1.4 bar on idle.......this means the needle just sits above the red (old Binnicle dash)

Which it did, but now its fine when driving & revs are up, but at idle the needle just falls into the red?

Thanks for your input
