Have I just killed my engine.>?

Recommended Posts

The readings from Freescan from last Saturday's track day make grim reading.. Car in all performed about 20 laps of the 1.67 mile course, spreda over 3 sessions with extended cool down in between. Garry Kemp has been straight with me of the potential damage done.. So if I don't want to strip down the engine until after the season what checks should I make.>?

The facts: :(

Car crossed 14.7 lambda at 6000 rpm

MAT reached 90 degrees at one point

Multiple knock retards (up to 4 degrees)..

urgh

So many other cars I could have gone for, what have I done.. :(

:(

It's alive.. alive!!!..

14.7 lambda at 6000 with a high TPS/MAP reading is nasty!! Off throttle at 14.7 is possible though and if thats what the log shows you may be OK. It seems that readings about 12-10 lambda are typical for mid to high TPS and MAP ranges? The knock retard logs show a good intervention. 90C MAT is too high.

You really do need to look at all the relationships to draw any real conclusions.. unless of course the engine bits are all over the track and thick smoke is following your car.. ;)

I know.. bad time for humour.. I hope you find all is OK.

As a first measure I would do a leakdown test and scope the bores for scoring/ pistons crowns for pitting.. Also check to make sure your coolant is full and properly bled of air. Run distilled water and Redline Water Wetter... AND sort out your intercooler.. J

ps ..could have happen to any car/engine

Thanks m8 - wish me luck - I suspect the c'cooler pump died.. hence problem so a full drain and flush on order anyway.

Engine sounds fine - no smoke or funny sounds but hope to get hold of a borescope to be certain.
