Carrillo Rods vs Stock Rods

Been thinking about upgrading my engine internals to forged pistons. That is the easy part. However, I have received mixed stories about upgrading the stock con rods. Are the stock connecting rods very strong or should I upgrade them to Carrillo steel connecting rods?

I've been told that the stock con rods are very strong. What is your take on this?

500hp - 600hp is the realm I would like to stay within.  Perhaps mid 500's.  I want to make the car decently reliable at that power.  I know that cooling will need some attention as well as fueling.  I konw of larger injectors, but am researching higher flow fuel pumps, there are several turbo options available to me.  Clutch upgrade though???

I have not come across anyone who has an upgraded clutch for these cars.  I've seen a transmission cooling kit.

......Do you have the model number for the AP clutch you are using?  I just bought a new OEM (haven't installed it yet), but if I can get an upgraded twin plate clutch kit (drop-in hopefully), I will acquire that and sell the OEM that I have.....

Nathan:

If you are doing new connecting rods, why not titanium? Incredibly light compared to steel. Ferrari uses them in the F355, F360 and F430. Stoic old Porsche is even using them in the new 911 Turbo.

Just a thought!

Mark,

I know this isn't comparing apples to apples, but when racing ducati superbikes, I've had a number of titanium con rod failures. Went to steel and the problems went away. I'd rather have the heavier con rod and balanced with everything. I may not push my Esprit as hard as I pushed the motorcycle, but the potential is there.
