2002 Esprit Check Engine Light

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what might be causing this. I purchased the car from Lotus of Atlanta about 2 months ago. They serviced the car and did a cambelt change also. Only thing I have done is add Esprit Performance Hi-Flow cats, and K&N filters, had to take it back to the exhaust shop because the tips we not centered, were too far over to the right side of the center exit. Car had 12k miles on arrival and I have only logged about 300 miles on it so far. Anyone that has had the CEL light come on for their V8 please chime in and let me know what it could be, and how to reset if it can be done without driving 200 miles to the closest dealer.

Thanks

An ODBII Scanner will tell you the reason it's on. You'll save a lot of money with one of these yourself, could just be a simple lose sensor connection.

You can find details of some laptop software a member wrote to diagnose your problems here.

go an buy a cheap 'universal' interface -or at least one that handles the old system protocoll-type ISO9141 and use the software from Peter (here in the board)

Alternative: use the *vehicle-explorer* software , available for example from www.obd-2.de or equal software systems ..there are many more in the net that can handle the diagnosis works on the V8.

My gues is: -the effectivity in conversion rate changed to much after the catalyst type was changed -that can cause an 'plausibility' fault?

In the USA , with this production year, you should have the rear o2-sensors as active part of the engine management. You can ask Mike Sekinger or the other V8 guys out here for that.

I had a faulty fuel gauge sender in the tank which meant that the fuel gauge reading was faulty and it fluctuated between empty and full whilst driving and my engine management light came on. I had the sender replaced and that cleared the engine management light and have had no problems since.
