Hi, I have an Esprit X180 for restoration. I have two problems to sort out,firstly the starter motor disengages but will not switch off ,help. Paul.

Bit strange that, usually starter motors have a contactor that engergises a large electromagnet in the unit itself which throws the pinion into the flywheel....when it's gone forward suffiently the contacts fot the motor are made. By letting off position 3 you kill the electromagnet and the mechanism returns but a spring which cuts the motor contacts as well.

If it were mine I'd take the thing off and see how it works, from what you describe sounds like somethings sticking. Mebbe my LEW starter motor write up might help further.
