Interestingly although the engine no matches the chassis no for mine it states silver whereas mine is def yellow and I can't see any evidence of respray, in fact it looks so "original" it needs respraying now!

When I bought the car the ID plate was separate as the car had been previously rebuilt. Leaves me with 3 theories.

1. Website incorrect

2. My car HAS been resprayed silver to yellow.

3. I have the wrong ID plate for my car.

Does anyone have any knowledge as to where else on my S2 the engine or chassis no may be displayed?

well on the list there appeared to be a little bit of discrepancies with the information. this data was taken from handwritten Lotus records from the 80s. we all know about the integrity of Lotus records so take it for what its worth. here is a response from Frank...

they are factory records I was sent by Lotus in the 80's to

use just didnt have the tools to do it , the records are all hand written

,you need to look at your door jamb and see if the build date matchs , the

records on the S1 and S2's seem to me to jump around alot but they are real,

also on certain cars when they swapped over from one group to another there

were interm cars, I remember S2 Europas that had alot of the features of the

S1's but called S2's ,that list is coming but it is massive. Another reason

I did this is to normalize the cars and let people see how many were made.

The mint green is the lime green -- and unless I miscounted, I thought I saw three there, which corroborates with a memory account from someone on here in the UK.

I've never seen even a photograph of a gold, bronze, or silver S1 -- I'd REALLY like to see that. And I'd even consider trading my red car for either an orange or bronze S1 here in the states (or gold if they made it).

When I was first in the market for buying an S1, i passed up on an orange car. A couple of years later, I spoke with someone who used to own an orange one. Little did I know how few there were! . . . . well, no matter how common it is, I like WHITE the best! :D

Makes me want to have another look at the S1 I was thinking of buying a while back.

Was orange with a Tartan / Green interior.

Thanks alot Tony...

BTW - Think there is someone here on the forum who has a bronze S2? Might be mistaken. One of the guys I know over here has a bronze S1. Absolutely mint condition. Looks stunning. One of about 8 Esprits he's got in his garage... He keeps beating me to all the good barn finds. Bastard :D

Mark, what are you waiting for? :D

BTW, I checked my chassis numbers against the log -

Red car, 260H, is correct

White car, 155H is correct

The build dates on the list must be completion dates, though, as the red car is 77040260H and is listed as May 11, and the white car is 77020155H and is listed as being in the first week of March. I guess it takes more than 11 days to build an Esprit!

One likely error in the chart: I have the capping rails from 151H, which was (sadly) parted out/broken for spares. They have 151H written in marker on the underside, and they are clearly and obviously originally red, whereas the list shows the car as being white.

BTW, some of the body pieces on the S1 (and S2 I am guessing) cars have the chassis number written in marker on the inside. I have seen this on the capping rails, inside the doors, and in the nose section on the opposite side of where the "esprit" decal is.

I'm so weak... Sh!t!

Just phoned the guy. Still on offer. Having a look tomorrow afternoon again. I'll probably take cash with me.

If I bring it home tomorrow night, it's all your fault! :(
