Thermostat stuck open?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else experienced a low coolant temperature showing on the gauge in day to day traffic; I'm wondering if I've got the 'stat which is stuck open. Other symptoms include tepid air blowing from the heater when turned up high, and taking a while to record any temp from start up. This is after a jounrey of some time / distance and at a reasonalbe speed.

I'd normally seek advice from the ever helpful team at Murray's (thanks guys) but I'm away a lot at the moment, so throwing myself to the mercy of TLF / LEGS.

You appear with the tedious inevitability of an unwelcome season.

As you know I use mine every day and have had no issues with the temperature gauge or any of the other problems you mention.

A call to Craig is on the cards methinks!

Initially I would have thought sensor but tepid air from the heater matrix is another clue. Could be a stuck thermostat. I can't logically come up with anything else myself.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

I assume you've checked the coolant level? The heater matrix is usually high up in the car and first to suffer although you'd expect the engine to run hot rather than cold if it were low?
