Tony K
So, Lotus are saying "Spring of 2008" . . . . Looking at Lotus' track record of promised vs. actual production dates (as well as their recent bringing of the Elise to the U.S.), I wonder how realistic "Spring of 2008" is . . . . They've been off by years in the past, and right on schedule, it seems. What will it be this time? Who knows!?! Put down your bet of month and year . . . what should we wager? My guess: UK/RoW - June 2008 USA - September 2008 Anyone else? Quote Tony K. Esprit S1s #355H & 454H Esprit S2.2 #324J 1991 Esprit SE

lotustt
In my opinion they really cant be "late". The sooner they can get this car to production the absolute better! If we're lucky cars will start to be shipped by the spring.

Tony K
I bump this tread to the top, given there is already talk of delaying the new Esprit in two other threads at the moment! It wouldn't be a true Lotus if it were finished on schedule! Quote Tony K. Esprit S1s #355H & 454H Esprit S2.2 #324J 1991 Esprit SE

esprit350
in light of the current financial state of the world, I dont think this is ever going to see the light of day for at least 5 or 6 years now Quote The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. Mark Blanchard
Lotus is developing the car again which is good news. Though I fear you might be right, I'd say 3-4 years when hopefully things get back to normal. And the car will need a face-lift, as the design cues will date from 2007/8. Paul C
in light of the current financial state of the world, I dont think this is ever going to see the light of day for at least 5 or 6 years now I'm thinking the same, but without the 'for at least 5 or 6 years now' bit at the end. I was always thinking that (M250 style) if you could get a matchbox toy of it before the car came out, it was doomed. But there are evora toys now and that is i'm sure going to happen, unless of course something really bad happens to the car industry. I mean something badder than now. If thats possible. Is it? superdavelotus
I agree with Howard and Paul. The design then and even now will have been outdated by the likes of the Gallardo which has been out since 2003. This is nearing it's sixth year in production. Shame really. I hope the Evora makes it to the showrooms and is a sucess but it probably the worst time to release a high end sports car in today's market. This may affect it's sucess and future of any of model that may come from Lotus. I had a short term idea of relaunching the existing Esprit V8 but update it somehow. looks like this could be a longer term solution? Bibs
I guess Lotus Design are aware of current design trends and will make the car look like a new car when it comes out. I don't think they'll draw a picture back in 2003 and keep it in a drawer until they can afford to make it. The recession is due to last all of next year and the Evora starts being delivered in the middle of that. If that's successful, which presently it looks like it will be, then Lotus will be able to afford to further develop and release the Esprit. My opinion. Gold FFM Mike Kimberley Posted December 21, 2008 Gold FFM Report Share Posted December 21, 2008 Hi Guys Am really cheered up by the fact that our best ambassadors in the world are asking very sensible questions regarding new strategic model policy. I am sure you will forgive me if I don't "give away" our strategic product policy plans, as the market is going to stay incredibly competitive and many of our competitors have massive funding compared to "Little Lotus". What I would note is that we are currently re-evaluating all of our product policy plans and I would not be suprised to see a major shift "outside the box", in the normal creative and innovative Lotus way. There are many different methods of powering a supercar and as you all know we are working on 5 EV's (electric) 4 SEV's - both parallel and series as well as biofuel products. Obviously Lotus has to not only remain true to it's DNA heritage but also take into account all of the new legislation and global pressures ecologically. This means very low Co2 levels in EU, going forward as well as providing the world with fabulous high performance sports cars or a very limited number utilising our world leading Lotus Engineering high technology consultancy business. There will be a period of stabilisation which starts with the new appointment of Obama and the regeneration of the US consumer driven market. I do not forsee us making any earth shattering decisions before the end of March when we will all have a clearer idea of the right way forward for the automotive industry and fashion business, of which we are part. As a matter of interest we are also extending our strategic business plan to 8 years from 5 - as you can well imagine this takes an enormous amount of information as well as crystal ball gazing. However watch this space as our brand image and equity WILL BE strongly building through various means and that includes our products and technology. Best regards and have a great Christmas. Thanks for all your support. Mike.
